Colorado State faces GCU to finish Mountain West play

FORT COLLINS – The Colorado State softball team will compete in its final week of Mountain West play in program history against Grand Canyon on April 30 - May 2. This week will feature Senior Day, honoring two graduating Rams, Giselle Bentley and Delaney Saugstad.

What You Need to Know   
  • All three games during the weekend will be streamed and can be accessed on the Mountain West Network.   
  • This week marks a crucial point for the Rams, as they look to maintain their place in the top six in the Mountain West ahead of the conference tournament.   
  • Friday's game against the Lopes will be State Pride and First Responders Appreciation Night, where fans are encouraged to wear their best Colorado State Flag colors to support.  
  • Saturday's game against the Lopes is Senior Day, where the Rams will honor their graduating seniors, Bentley and Saugstad. This will also be Green Out, where Ram Fans are encouraged to wear their best green to support. 
  
Game Notes      
  • The Rams swept Utah State this past weekend, with high scoring wins over the Aggies. 
  • Madi Eslinger was named the Mountain West Player and Freshman of the Week as well as the D1 Softball Mid-Major Freshman of the Week after leading the Rams offensively with a batting average of .556 on the weekend, hitting two home runs in Saturday's game against Utah State, including a grand slam, leading to a 15-6 win in favor of the Rams. Eslinger contributed four runs, five hits and 11 RBI across three games, slugging at a 1.222 clip including 11 total bases. 
  • Autumn Rutherford finished the weekend with a .455 batting average, contributing heavy on offense for the Rams. She added five hits and three runs for the Rams, with two stand-up doubles. Rutherford hit a home run to lead the offense in a game one comeback – starting a rally for the Rams allowing them to come back from a five run deficit and taking game one of the series.  
  • Kyra Smith hit a grand slam in Saturday's game against the Aggies, contributing to the dominate win for the Rams.  
  • The Rams ended the weekend with 32 total hits and 33 runs through three games. As a team, CSU finished the weekend with a .364 batting average and .648 slugging percentage. Defensively, the Rams notched 60 putouts and 19 assists as a whole.   
  • Giselle Bentley claimed wins in two of the three victories against the Aggies on the weekend, logging two appearances and one start. Ended the weekend with a 0.95 ERA and 0.68 WHIP, with two strikeouts through 7.1 total innings pitched while holding her opponent to a .160 batting average.
