FORT COLLINS - The Colorado State softball team split a double header against South Dakota Saturday at day one of the Rams Invitational. The Rams secured a 4-2 win in the first game and then fell to the Coyotes 6-2 in game two.

Game One: Colorado State, 4 | South Dakota, 2
  • Colorado State's offense was highlighted by two home runs, contributing to its 10-hit performance, while Reagan Wick limited South Dakota to just six hits over six innings in a complete game win in the circle.
  • In the first inning, Kyra Smith put the Rams ahead with a solo home run to deep left field, her third on the season.
  • In the third inning Lauren Stucky singled and scored on a two-run homer by Jailey Wilson to deep center field, answering to a 3-1 lead after the Coyotes tied things up in the top of the second.

  • Reagan Wick delivered a strong performance for the Rams, pitching a complete game while allowing just one earned run over six innings of work. Wick faced 30 batters, striking out four. Of the 114 pitches thrown, 65 were strikes, and she induced 11 groundouts and two flyouts.
  • Castillo finished the first game with three hits, including a double.
Game Two: Colorado State, 2 | South Dakota, 6
  • Colorado State managed seven hits, including two doubles, but was unable to overcome South Dakota's early scoring advantage.
  • The Rams opened the game with momentum as Lauren Stucky was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Jailey Wilson capitalized with a double to right center, bringing Stucky home. At the end of the first inning.
  • Throughout the game, South Dakota ace Madison Evans had the Rams a bit on their heels compared to game one.
  • Colorado State narrowed the gap in the sixth inning. Allyson Moody walked, and pinch runner Lindsey Hinson scored on Bradie Poteet-Herrera's double to left field.
  • Giselle Bentley started the game for the Rams, pitching four and a third innings while allowing seven hits and six runs, four of which were earned. Bentley recorded three strikeouts before passing the ball to Delaney Saugstad who recorded the final out in the top of the fifth. Andrea Jaskowiak completed the game with two innings of relief work, striking out one and keeping South Dakota off the board during her time on the mound.
