Athletic Department Announces Second Ring of Honor Class

Five more athletes to be honored throughout the year
FORT COLLINS  – A football duo, along with representatives from women's basketball, volleyball and baseball, will be added to the Colorado State Ring of Honor during the 2026-27 competitive calendar, joining last year's inaugural members.

Football players Clark Haggans and Lawrence McCutchen will have their names added to the ring at Canvas Stadium on Sept. 19 when Colorado State hosts BYU. Women's basketball player Katie Cronin, Tippy Martinez from baseball and volleyball player Diane Saba-Johannsen will have banners raised in Moby Arena. Saba will be honored on Sept. 18 during volleyball's annual White Out when they host Colorado. Cronin and Martinez's dates will be announced at a later date during the basketball season. All five are members of Colorado State's Athletics Hall of Fame.

Katie Cronin
The definition of an immediate-impact player, the Colorado native started all 125 games of her illustrious career, including a trio of honorable mention All-American decorations on her resume. Versatile and dependable, Cronin impacted games in a myriad of ways, still ranking among the program's leaders decades after her graduation. She was part of two conference championship teams, including the 1999 squad which posted a 33-3 mark and made the program's only trip to the NCAA Sweet 16.

Clark Haggans
One of the most disruptive defenders in Colorado State history, Haggans was part of a defense that bullied opponents in the late 1990s, helping the Rams win conference championships in 1997 and 1999. He still holds the career records for sacks (33.0) and tackles for loss (54.0), making a habit out of changing the course of games with his aggressive style of play. He then embarked on a 13-year NFL career, winning Super Bowl XL with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Tippy Martinez
The La Junta product was a stalwart in the Colorado State baseball program before proving to be one of the best relievers of his generation in a 14-year professional career. Martinez posted a 10-1 record with the Rams in 1972 – the only 10-win season in program history – and was second in the nation with a 1.25 ERA, a school record. He made his MLB debut in 1974 and later became the Baltimore Orioles all-time saves leader at the time while helping them claim a World Series title in 1983. He finished with 55 wins and 115 saves in MLB.

Lawrence McCutchen
He graduated in 1972 as Colorado State's career rushing leader, and more than 50 years later, his 2,917 yards still rank in the top 10 for the Rams. He was the first CSU back to rush for 1,000 yards in a season, doing it in back-to-back campaigns (1970-71). An honorable mention All-American in 1970, he was also the first Ram to rush for 200 yards in a game. In the NFL, starting for the Los Angeles Rams, he was a five-time Pro Bowler.

Diane Saba-Johannsen
She helped start Colorado State's dominance in volleyball, with the Colorado native coming to Fort Collins after being a three-sport all-state selection as a prep. She briefly played basketball for CSU but earned her reputation by becoming a first-team All-American in 1987. She left with the school mark in solo blocks as the team made the NCAA Tournament all four years of her career. A Frank Award winner, she went on to play professionally, making the MLV all-star team in 1989. She followed up by becoming a program developer as a head coach at both Windsor and Fort Collins high schools.
