Canvas Stadium 10 Year Anniversary: Crowd After Crowd, Canvas Draws Well

Facility has drawn 35,000-plus on 10 occasions
Earlier in the week, Colorado State's football team, in preparation for the 2025 season, invited the freshman class – the largest in university history – to learn the athletic ropes. Coaches from the four ticketed sports were in attendance, explaining the traditions and cheers to the next generation of Rams.

The first chance the campus has to watch the team live, the students poured through the gates in record numbers. Hosting Northern Colorado, 15,740 students came to watch a thrilling 17-16 victory, creating an electric atmosphere CSU coaches have come to expect since Canvas Stadium opened in 2017.

As the building turns 10 this season, it has seen record numbers.

The past two seasons are the first in program history where the Rams have hosted seven home games, and for both, the average attendance exceeded 30,000. That had only happened four times prior, including the inaugural campaign at Canvas Stadium. In 2024, the program set a record with an average attendance of 33,082, a season when the venue sold out four times.

The first crowd of 37,583 watched Colorado State christen the facility with a 58-27 win over Oregon State. Since then, there have been 10 crowds of at least 35,000 at Canvas Stadium, two of which occurred in 2026.

Twice the facility, which holds 36,500 seated patrons, has exceeded the number by offering standing-room-only options. The first came when Colorado visited in 2024, a record-setting total of 40,099. A year later on Homecoming, the record was rewritten when 40,416 watched a 31-19 victory over Hawaii. It was the second sellout of the season.

With the dawning of two eras – coach Jim Mora and the Rams' entry into the Pac-12 – there's an outlook of bigger crowds to follow.
