CSU chases its first win over the Broncos with Pac-12 Championship positioning on the line

FORT COLLINS -- Colorado State soccer splits the week between home and the Pacific Northwest, hosting Boise State on Thursday before visiting Oregon State on Sunday.

Thursday's match at CSU Soccer Field kicks off at 6 p.m. Sunday's match at Paul Lorenz Field in Corvallis, Ore., is set for 2 p.m. MT.

Series History: Boise State

Boise State leads the all-time series 8-0-4, and Thursday is the Rams' 13th shot at a first win over the Broncos. CSU has come close. Three of the past four meetings in Fort Collins ended level, including a 1-1 draw in 2024, and last season's 1-0 Boise State win came on a goal inside the final 10 minutes after the Rams outshot the Broncos. Thursday is the first meeting between the programs as Pac-12 opponents.

Series History: Oregon State

Sunday marks the first meeting between the programs.

Scouting the Broncos

Boise State (12-2-1, 4-1-0) arrives second in the standings, one point behind Utah State. The Broncos beat Oregon State 2-1 on Saturday when freshman Campbell Wilson converted a penalty kick with about 30 seconds to play, the program's first win over the Beavers. Their only conference loss came Oct. 11, a 1-0 decision against Utah State that snapped a nine-match win streak, the longest in program history.

Wilson has 11 goals and seven assists in her first college season, and six of those goals have been game-winners. Mia Lane leads the Pac-12 with five conference goals. Boise State has scored 13 times in league play, the most in the conference, while allowing three.

Goalkeeper Ava de Leest led the Pac-12 in goals-against average entering the weekend and has eight shutouts. The Broncos are also 11-0 when scoring first, which makes Thursday's opening goal worth a little extra. Jim Thomas is the head coach.

Scouting the Beavers

Oregon State (1-10-4, 0-2-2) has not won since beating Bushnell 5-0 on Aug. 19, but the Beavers have been tough to put away. They drew San Diego State 2-2 and Texas State 3-3 before Saturday's loss at Boise State, which turned on a 90th-minute penalty kick. Mary Hoffman leads the team with five goals, including a converted penalty in Boise. Oregon State visits Fresno State on Thursday before hosting CSU. Caroline Kelly is in her third season as head coach.

A Reunion in Corvallis

Sunday brings a familiar face to the other end of the field. Oregon State goalkeeper Libby Brooker spent three seasons at CSU, the last of them sharing the goalkeeper room with Addison Huber in 2025. As a redshirt freshman in 2024, Brooker made 60 saves, tied for the sixth-most in a single season in program history, and earned a spot on the Mountain West All-Newcomer Team.

Huber already has 70 this fall. The sophomore made nine saves Friday at Texas State, her third nine-save match in four outings, and her 37 conference saves rank second in the Pac-12. Her 70 career saves also rank sixth in program history, four behind Paige Brandt for fifth. Brooker has made 21 in four league matches for the Beavers.

Last fall they trained in the same net. Sunday, they guard opposite ones.

Quick Kicks

The Rams (3-10-2, 2-3-0) fell 1-0 at Texas State on Friday despite outshooting the Bobcats 17-14. CSU put a season-best 11 shots on goal, and Texas State keeper Caitlyn Draper needed 11 saves to keep them out.

Thursday is CSU's first home match since Oct. 8. Both of the Rams' home wins this season, over Denver and Gonzaga, came by 1-0 shutouts.

Freshmen have logged more than 2,800 minutes for CSU this season. Breckyn Ferrell and Kennedy Albertson have each made nine starts, and the class has produced three goals and two assists.

CSU plays clean. The Rams have three yellow cards in five Pac-12 matches, tied for second-fewest in the league, and commit 8.40 fouls per match, second-fewest. This week's opponents sit at the other end: Oregon State leads the conference with 11 yellow cards, and Boise State has committed a league-high 71 fouls.

The standings race is tight. CSU sits sixth with six points, level with Washington State and Gonzaga, and the top four advance to the Pac-12 Championship, set for Nov. 11-15. Three regular-season matches remain.
