Second-ever matchup between the programs is the first with conference points on the line
FORT COLLINS -- Colorado State soccer has one match on the calendar this week, a Friday trip to Texas State for the first conference meeting between the programs.
Friday's match at the Bobcat Soccer Complex in San Marcos, Texas, kicks off at 6 p.m. MT.
Series History
Friday marks the second meeting between the programs. The Rams won the first, 2-1, in San Marcos on Aug. 29, 2024, scoring both of their goals before halftime. Two years later, the rematch comes with standings implications.
Scouting the Bobcats
Texas State (7-3-3, 0-2-1) is still chasing its first conference win. The Bobcats opened league play with a 2-1 loss at No. 19 Utah State, dropped a 1-0 decision at home to San Diego State and drew 3-3 at Oregon State on Sunday. Nina Norshie scored in the seventh and 10th minutes in Corvallis, and Jenny Ngankem added a free kick from about 23 yards out in the 72nd.
Nonconference play went considerably better. Texas State finished 7-1-2 against outside opponents, a stretch headlined by a 3-1 win at No. 6 Baylor on Aug. 23, the first win over a ranked opponent in program history.
The Bobcats have scored 32 goals, an average of 2.46 per match. Victoria Meza leads the team with eight goals, 20 points and four game-winners, and Matsuri Tsutsui has a team-best six assists. In goal, Caitlyn Draper has made 62 saves. Bobcats are coached by Steve Holeman in his fifth year with the team.
The teams share two common conference opponents. Each has lost to both Utah State and San Diego State.
Huber Climbs the Charts
Addison Huber's 61 saves are the sixth-most in a single season in program history, and four regular-season matches remain to add to the total. The sophomore passed Gray Willson (2025) and Libby Brooker (2024), who each finished with 60. Hunter Peifer's 75 in 2017 is next, 14 saves away.
Nine of those saves came Thursday in a 1-0 win over Gonzaga, matching her total from the Utah State match four days earlier. The Bulldogs fired 23 shots. None found the net, and Huber recorded her second shutout of the season. Both nine-save performances now sit tied for sixth on the program's single-match list.
Friday puts her across the field from Draper, whose 62 saves are exactly one more than Huber's.
Quick Kicks
The Rams (3-9-2, 2-2-0) split their second week of conference play, beating Gonzaga at home before falling at San Diego State.
Freshman Ava Wallhead scored the winner against Gonzaga off a Kaja Dionne assist. Wallhead shares the team lead with Mia Casey at three goals, and her two game-winners lead the Rams.
Avery Boulom converted a penalty kick at San Diego State for the first goal of her career, in her 39th career appearance. The senior has played all 1,260 minutes this season, the only Ram on the field for every one of them.
Eleven of CSU's 14 matches have been decided by one goal or ended level, and nine of the Rams' 12 goals have come after halftime.
