CSU men's basketball hosts San Jose State on New Year's Eve

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – As the year 2022 comes to an end, CSU men's basketball will tip it off one last time. The Rams host San Jose and a familiar face in head coach Tim Miles on New Year's Eve with a 2 pm tip inside Moby Arena.

Opening Tip
- New Mexico came out and hit a barrage of threes to get past CSU in the Mountain West opener 88-69.
- UNM made a season-best 15 threes in the game, 11 coming in the first half,
- Patrick Cartier and John Tonje led the team with 16 points each. Cartier shot 7-for-8 from the field while Tonje drained a trio of threes.
- Isaiah Stevens had his fourth straight game with five plus assists recording seven on Wednesday. He added in 10 points as well.
- Isaiah Rivera reached double figures for the 11th time this season with his 12 points and team-leading six rebounds against the Lobos.
- Colorado State is 41-7 inside Moby Arena the past four seasons. Last year they went 8-1 at home in Mountain West play.
- The Rams are 14-9 in Mountain West home openers winning their past two.
- San Jose State is led by former CSU coach Tim Miles. Miles coached in Fort Collins from 2007-12 helping CSU to two NCAA Tournament appearances. It is Miles first trip back to Moby since leaving CSU.
- San Jose State started the Mountain West season with an overtime win over UNLV at home on Wednesday. It is the first time since joining the Mountain West in 2013-14 that they are 1-0.
- The 10 wins are the most in a season for the Spartans since 2016-17.
- Saturday's game is SJSU's first trip back to Moby since February 2020.

Scouting the Spartans
Tim Miles continues to show why he is one of the best college basketball coaches out there turning around a San Jose State in just his second year. SJSU is 10-4 on the year and 1-0 in Mountain West play after a 75-73 overtime win over UNLV on Wednesday.

SJSU looks to slow the game down and make teams work on both ends of the court with one of the slowest tempos in all of Division I basketball.

The Spartans have just one player who is averaging double figures scoring in Omari Moore and his 14.0 points per game. They do have depth though with seven other players averaging over 5.0 points a game.

What's Ahead
Colorado State starts 2023 on the road to face Nevada on January 4 at 8:30 pm MT on FS1.
