One day after the school's football program received an official invitation to the first-ever Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego, Calif., university officials are busily marketing tickets to fans, making logistical arrangements, and finalizing travel plans for the game.

The Rams will meet Navy Dec. 22 at Qualcomm Stadium. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. PT/8:30 p.m. MT, and it will be televised by ESPN2. The game will also be carried statewide on radio by the Colorado State Sports Network including flagship station KIIX in Fort Collins (600 AM) and 710 AM KNUS in Denver.

"We are going to do everything in our power to get as many CSU fans to the game as possible," said Director of Athletics Mark Driscoll.

"Colorado State has established a national bowl reputation under coach Lubick. We're counting on our fans to support the Rams in San Diego."

Athletic department marketing officials unveiled a "Surf and Turf" theme for the bowl game hours after receiving the official invitation. The department also has a link on the school's athletics website, CSURAMS.com, providing game and ticket information for fans.

The school is planning more emails and marketing leading up to the game. Ticket information and sales staff will be available at all men's and women's basketball games prior to the bowl trip.

By Tuesday night, the school had sent out more than 40,000 emails to ticket holders, donors, and alumni members about tickets - priced at $35 - for the game.

"We are trying to contact as many individuals as possible about supporting the Rams at the game," said Driscoll.

He said the easiest way for fans to purchase tickets to the game is online at CSURAMS.com. Fans can also purchase tickets by calling 1-800-491-RAMS or visit the school's ticket office in the McGraw Athletic Center.

Information on travel packages that include airfare, lodging and bus transfers to the game are also at CSURAMS.com.

Lubick said Wednesday his team will open bowl workouts Thursday, Dec. 1 at 4 p.m., then stage another workout in the afternoon two days later. Prior to traveling to San Diego, the Rams will also practice Dec. 8, 10, 13, 16, and 17. Times will be announced.

Tentatively, the team travel party will depart for San Diego Dec. 18 and be headquartered at the Marina Marriott during its bowl stay. CSU will stage bowl site workouts at San Diego State University prior to the game.

Once arriving in San Diego, CSU will practice Monday and Tuesday (Dec. 19-20), then stage a walk-through at the game site the day prior to the game. The final workout is closed to the public and the media.

Team events in San Diego will include a trip to the San Diego Zoo or Sea World, and a luncheon for both teams aboard the USS Midway.

By early next week, school officials will announce finalized plans for a pep rally at the team hotel and pregame tailgate gathering at the stadium.
