BOULDER, Colo. — Colorado State (0-1-0) fell to Colorado (1-0-0) by a score of 2-1 on Wednesday night at Prentup Field, in a match delayed by rain and lightning. First touch didn't come until 8:30 p.m. Despite the loss, the Rams broke a long-standing drought, scoring against Colorado for the first time since 2016.

First Half
Colorado struck first when Reagan Kotschau scored in the 15th minute, assisted by Hope Leyba and Sloane Phillips, putting the Buffs ahead 1-0.

The Rams answered sustained early pressure of their own in the 13th minute, as Danielle Charleston and Kennedy Albertson each tested the Colorado defense, but Jamie Campbell turned away Charleston's attempt.

CSU's Addison Huber came up big in the 22nd minute, denying a shot from Faith Leyba to keep the deficit at one. Mia Casey had another look for the Rams in the 43rd minute, but Colorado carried its 1-0 edge into the break.

Second Half
Colorado State found the equalizer in the 66th minute. Freshman Ava Wallhead buried her first career goal, assisted by Kaja Dionne, who notched her first assist of the season on the play, to tie the match at 1-1. It marked the Rams' first goal against Colorado since 2016.

Colorado answered ten minutes later, as Lilian Zamorano put the Buffs back in front in the 76th minute. Huber kept CSU within reach down the stretch, stopping additional shots from Caley Swierenga and Ruby Hayward, but Colorado closed out the 2-1 win.

Huber finished with six saves on 21 shots faced, nine of those on goal. Dionne recorded two shots on goal to go with her assist. Wallhead scored the Rams' lone goal, converting one of her two shot attempts.

Colorado State returns home for its 2026 home opener on Sunday, hosting Denver at Rams Soccer Field in Fort Collins. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
