Jamison breaks 34-year-old record
GOLDEN – Colorado State track and field made a mid-week trip down to Golden for the Mines Mid-Week and Multis. Sprinters stole the show with Neya Jamison crowning herself as the all-time leader in the 400-meter hurdles, while the men's side saw the 4x400 record fall by nearly three seconds.Â
Record Breakers Â
Jamison struck first, running a 57.63 in the 400m hurdles to claim Colorado State's all-time record. Jamison ranked third coming into the day and was looking to bounce back after recording a DNF in her first attempt of the season. Â
"In practice we all know what we're seeing," said sprints coach JJ Reise. "I think she has the potential to run even faster. It's probably a little bit of a relief to get the time on the clock to be consistent with what we're seeing in practice." Â
Jamison ranks first in the Mountain West by nearly two seconds; she additionally ranks sixteenth in the nation and ninth in the West Region. She also recorded a personal best in the 110 hurdles at 13.61, moving to fourth all time in the event.Â
The men's 4x400 were the next record breakers, running a blistering 3:05.87 to claim the school record. The crew included Ashton Whisler, Owen Langdon, Sean Donelson, and Kenny Carpenter. Carpenter and Whisler were part of the indoor squad that broke the indoor school record earlier this year. Â
"I think they all really enjoy competing," Said Reise. "Some folks get to the race and tighten up, put pressure on themselves. But these guys love racing. They love competing. They knew what was at stake and there was no secret that they were planning to do it. So, to see them come out and run really loose and fast, they really responded to the challenge." Â
The relay ranks as the best in the conference by eight seconds and fifth in the west region; the squad also ranks 14th in the NCAA. Anchoring the event was Carpenter who holds the indoor record in the 400 for CSU and sits second place in the outdoor counterpart, making it his third school record of 2026. Â
Mines Mid-Week and MultisÂ
The Rams tested history in other places, including the men's 110 hurdles where Owen Langdon came .02 seconds from the all-time record. His 13.57 was just shy of Trevor Brown's 13.55 which was set back in 2014. Langdon ranks in the top 15 of the NCAA and leads the MW conference. Â
Following Langdon was senior Trenton Givens who also blazed through the 110 hurdles, the NAU transfer ran a 13.75 that moves to third best all-time only behind Langdon and Brown. Givens is now second in the conference and ranks in the top 25 of the NCAA. Trailing him was Carsen Bruns who closed out the podium sweep, running a personal best 14.13 to move into a tie for tenth best at CSU. Â
The hurdlers continued to have a day with Jack Wetterling leading the way in the men's 400 hurdles. He recorded a PR at 52.15, beating teammate Carsen Bruns by just one tenth of a second (52.16). Bruns also recorded a personal best on the day, moving into the top 20 of the record books.Â
Grace Lanfear made second start of the season running a PR 58.53 in the 400 hurdles to move into fifth all-time for CSU. Lanfear made her return from injury just four days ago and is once again setting personal bests. She ranks second in the conference and in the top 20 of the west region. Â
Jack Olsen came through with a season best in the javelin, recording a 64.51-meter/211-feet-8. He won the event and moves to sixth best ever for the Rams. Also shining in the throws was the Swede Adam Hellbom who set another personal best in the hammer throw. Hellbom threw a 67.33/220-11 to finish second on the day; he moves up one spot and now ranks fourth all time for the Green and Gold.Â
Jo-Anna Pinnock made her return to completion, competing in the long jump where she finished third. Pinnock has been out for over a year and returns by nearly hitting the six-meter mark (5.87/19-3.25).Â
