Tozin advances to main draw

Colorado State began competition at the ITA Mountain Regional on Tuesday, looking to qualify for the individual singles and doubles championship.

The event was slated to be played in Provo, but due to inclement weather, the action shifted to the University of Utah indoor facility, which has more courts.

Four Rams played in the qualifying singles round with a host of tight decisions:

  • Junior Diana Lizarazo came into qualifying as the third seed but ultimately fell in the first round of qualifying to Idaho's Victoria Cajigas.

  • Senior Logan Voeks played her first round of qualifying where she would lose to Nevada's Mia Woo in a third-set tiebreaker.

  • Sophomore Leyla Tozin qualified for the main draw as she won two matches, both in three sets, including a 10-8 tiebreak to secure her spot in her second match. She will play her opening round in the main draw against third seed Allison Isaacs of Boise State.

  • Sophomore Dylan Voeks won her first-round match but would eventually fall to Utah's Lily Stohl in a hard-fought tiebreaker 10-6.

Colorado State will continue singles and doubles action Wednesday with senior Sorcha Caves playing her opening round in singles while the Rams will send four pairings to the courts in doubles. Weather permitting, the tournament will shift back to BYU.
