Cross country phenom named women's athlete and freshman of the week.
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State cross country received its first Mountain West awards of the season with freshman Tatum Berg bringing home women's athlete and freshman of the week. Â
Â
Berg shined in her second race, finishing first in the Roadrunner Invite and leading the women's side to a team victory. The freshman's time of 21:34.14 finished just ahead of teammate Allison Pippert, who was the top Ram at the Wyoming Invite in their last contest.
Â
In a post-race interview Berg added, "We really want to get to NCAAs, that is our overall goal." That mindset ran true in their results, with the team finishing 1-2-5-6-9 and winning the race by over 50 points.
Â
Berg currently has the fastest time by a freshman in the MW and second-fastest time of any runner in the 6K. Nationally, the Fort Collins native ranks 23rd among all freshmen in Division I and in the top 130 as a whole.
Â
Berg had an illustrious high school career, winning the Fossil Ridge MVP award every four years and being recognized by the Colorado Running Hall of Fame in her senior year. Next on the docket for Berg lies the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invite, where the Rams will look to continue their winning ways.
