Rams and Aggies battle for second place

FORT COLLINS – Colorado State men's basketball battles for position atop the Mountain West standings on Tuesday night when they travel to Logan, Utah to face Utah State at 9 p.m. MT.
 
Opening Tip
- Colorado State defended its home court with a 68-63 win over San Diego State on Saturday.
- In a rock fight of a game, the Rams outrebounded SDSU 44-35, including 17 offensive rebounds.
- The 17 offensive rebounds by CSU are a Niko Medved-era high.
- Nique Clifford picked up his 10th double-double of the year with 21 points and 13 rebounds adding in three steals and two assists.
- The 20-point game was also his 10th of the year. 
- He is averaging 17.4 points, 9.8 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.2 steals per game.
- Clifford is one of two Division I players with 400 points, 225 rebounds and 90 assists, and UAB's Yaxel Lendeborg.
- Clifford is fifth in the nation with 8.30 defensive rebounds per game and 15th for total rebounds at 9.8.
- He was selected to the preseason All-Mountain West team after earning third team honors last season.
- Jalen Lake is having a strong senior season averaging 12.1 points on 41.9% shooting including 33.1% from behind the arc.
- Sophomore Kyan Evans has turned a corner in the past 13 games averaging 10.7 points shooting 47.3% from 3-point range with 3.4 assists per game.
- Jaylen Crocker-Johnson recorded his third double figures scoring game in the past four with his 10 points in the win. He added in four rebounds, three on the offensive end.
- Ethan Morton matched his CSU-career high with seven points while adding in three rebounds, two assists and a steal in 23 minutes off the bench.
- CSU ranks 13th in the nation making 78.2% of its free throw attempts this season.
- Colorado State's defense has turned it up in conference play. They are allowing just 66.5 points and holding opponents to 42.1 shooting.
- In conference games only, the Rams ranks fourth in Bartorvik for adjusted defensive efficiency at 100.6 and KenPom as well at 101.4.
- Head coach Niko Medved is in his seventh year leading Colorado State. He is 131-83 as the Rams' head coach. He has the second most wins in program history trailing only Jim Williams (1955-80) and his 352.
- He became the fifth coach in program history to reach 100 wins in Fort Collins last year.
- Medved is the only coach in program history to win 20-plus games four times.
- He picked up his 200th career win in November with the Rams' overtime win over TCU.
 
Scouting the Aggies
First-year head coach Jerrod Calhoun has enjoyed a strong opening campaign in Logan with his Aggies at 21-3 overall, including 11-2 in Mountain West play.
 
Utah State moves the ball well and can fill up the basket averaging 81.4 points per game and a league leading 18.4 assists.
 
The duo of Ian Martinez and Mason Falslev lead the way for the Aggies high-powered offense averaging 17.0 and 14.5 points, respectively.
