CSU drops Mountain West opener at Utah State

LOGAN, Utah – It felt like déjà vu for Colorado State men's basketball, falling to Utah State 100-58 in Logan to open Mountain West play. The Aggies made their first six 3-pointers of the game, a year after making their first seven to open the game.

How It Happened
Utah State started the game up 12-0 with Mason Falslev scoring 10 of those 12 points.

That set the tone for the rest of the game as MJ Collins went on a personal 11-0 run to extend the Utah State lead to 22. He connected on a trio of 3s during the run as Utah State made its first six on the day.

Coming in as the nation's best shooting team, Colorado State could not buy a basket, shooting 26.3%  in the first half and trailing by 21 at the break. To add to the struggles, CSU lost starting forward Kyle Jorgensen early in the game.

The second half was more of the same. CSU improved its shooting to 46.2%, but could not get a stop. USU continued to grow its lead and defeated the Rams to open conference play.

Game Notes
-Saturday's game was the first time since Tulsa in 2019 that a Colorado State opponent scored 100 points.
- Carey Booth and Brandon Rechsteiner were the only Rams to reach double digits in scoring.
- CSU's 15 turnovers tied for a season-high and led to 27 USU points.
- Utah State shot 63.8% from the field, an opponent season-high
