WYOMING INVITE RACE SCHEDULE
Women's 5K // 9:00 AM
Men's 5K // 9:30 AM
Â
NEW SEASON, FAMILIAR FACES
Quinn McConnell (women's), Michael Mooney and Lars Mitchel (men's), each decided to return for their final season of eligibility. McConnell, who finished All-Mountain West in 2023, looks to build on a successful year in which she was the Rams' second-best finisher at both the MW Championships and NCAA Regionals. On the men's side, Mooney looks to return to his 2022 All-Mountain West form after missing the 2023 season due to injury. Mitchel – a 2023 all-conference honoree – seeks to start strong once again at the Wyoming Invite as he finished 9th in last season's edition of the race.
Â
DEFENDING THE TITLE
The Ram women look to take home a first-place victory at the Wyoming Invite for the fifth-straight time, excluding the 2020-21 edition in which the meet was converted to a dual. At last season's race, the women's team claimed four of the top 10 individual finishes, including champion Sarah Carter.
Â
RANKINGS RELEASED
U.S. Track & Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its preseason edition of the regional and national rankings earlier this week, placing both the Colorado State men's and women's teams seventh in the Mountain Region. Nationally, the Ram women received 14 votes in the preseason poll and ended up just outside the top-30 rankings.
Â
The defending MW champion CSU women's team were picked to finish second in the league's preseason poll released on Wednesday. Coming off four-straight NCAA Championship appearances and three-straight seasons finishing in the top 25, the CSU women look to achieve similar success in 2024.
Â
BLENDS OF YOUTH AND EXPERIENCE
The Rams returned 23 runners from last season, while welcoming 14 newcomers between the men's and women's teams. The men's team will look much different compared to 2023, with nine new faces and the aforementioned return of former all-conference performer, Mooney. On the women's side, Kensey May joins McConnell as a returning all-league honoree.
Â
UP NEXT
Following this weekend, Colorado State will have a few weeks to train before heading to the Roy Griak Invitational on Sept. 20 in Minneapolis, Minn.
