Ram women finish 1-2-5-6-9 to claim second-straight team win

DENVER - The Colorado State women's cross-country team is now two-for-two on the year, claiming the Roadrunner Invitational by over fifty points at Washington Park on Saturday. The men's side finished with a strong third place showing, finishing with 90 points.

  • Tatum Berg and Allison Pippert once again stole the show for Colorado State as the duo was together the entire race finishing first and second, respectively. The pair took turns holding the lead, however Berg separated herself in the final 300 yards, rewarding the freshman with her first win as a Ram.
  • The men were led by senior Ben Kirbo, who held steady near the front of the pack the entire race. Kirbo finished fourth overall with a 25:13.97, only behind one runner who was attached to a competing program.
  • Parker Westermann made his debut running under the Green and Gold. The freshman got out to a fast start, ultimately ending in a sub-26 time (25:52.57) and a top-20 finish. Also debuting was Brett Ephriam who finished sub-27 in his first collegiate competition.
  • More highlights on the women's side included Abigail Petr who ran a personal best 21:11.63, ending in a top five finish. Petr steadily climbed up the pack the entire race, passing crowds of competitors in the second half. Right behind her was Shea Volkmer who also ran a personal best (22:14.01) and earned her second top 10 finish of the season.
  • Rams took up eight of the top 20 spots on the women's side, with all eight finishing in under 23 minutes, including Jaycee Williams (16th) and Mari Konold (19th) who made their season debuts.

Looking Ahead

Cross country gets a week off before returning to competition again for the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invite (Oct. 3rd). That begins a run of three meet weeks in a row in an effort to gear-up for postseason competition.
