Rams Battle Through Tough Conditions In Mountain Regionals

11/15/2024 2:40:00 PM | Cross Country

Cross country falls short of auto-bids for NCAA Championships.

RENO, Nev. - Colorado State cross country traveled to snow-covered Reno, Nev., to compete in the NCAA Mountain Regional on Friday afternoon.

The Ram women finished a respectable seventh place in the stacked region, led by graduate seniors Anna Petr and Quinn McConnell. Petr, who achieved a personal best 20:12.04, was the leading finisher for Colorado State placing 14th.

Following Petr was the usual troop of McConnell (20:19.2) and Kensey May (20:37.5) who finished 25th and 37th, respectively. Behind them was 53rd place Madison King whose 21:04.7 fell just short of the top 50. Allison Pippert and Kenya Denne closed it out for the Ram women with both runners finishing in the top 65.

The Ram men started slow and were unable to bounce back, finishing ninth place as a team. Standout runner Lars Mitchell led the way with a time of 29:42.8 which resulted in an 18th-place finish.

Following Mitchel were his fellow graduate seniors Cory Kennedy (29:58.01) and Michael Mooney (30:21.3) who finished in 31st and 46th, respectively. Sam Griffith (52nd) and Chris Henry (55th) followed close behind Mooney.

Petr, McConnell and Mitchel received all-region honors for their top-25 finishes. Each earned recognition again after being awarded All-Mountain West just two weeks back at the conference championships.

After falling short of auto-bids the Rams will have to wait for the NCAA Cross Country Championship Selection show to learn their season's fate. The show takes place Saturday, Nov. 16th at 3.00 p.m.
