CSU looks to start the weekend right against UNLV

FORT COLLINS – Friday night, Moby Arena, Orange Out is the way to start the weekend as CSU men's basketball hosts UNLV at 8:30 pm.

Opening Tip
- Colorado State returned to the win column on Tuesday night with a gritty overtime win over Air Force 78-69.
- The 12-point comeback was CSU's largest comeback win of the year and third of double digits.
- Friday night's game is the team's annual Orange Out game honoring the university's past when they were known as the Colorado A&M Aggies and the colors were Pumpkin and Alfalfa.
- After a program record seven weeks straight ranked, CSU is just outside the top 25 this week, checking in at 26th, as the first team listed in the receiving votes section.
- Head coach Niko Medved is in his sixth year leading Colorado State. He is 106-65 as the Rams' head coach. The win on December 2 against Washington was the 100th for him leading the Green & Gold. Medved is now one of five coaches in the program's history to reach the 100 wins mark.
- Isaiah Stevens returns for his final year of eligibility and the nation is taking notice of the guard. Stevens was named the Mountain West Preseason Player of the Year, Wooden Top 50 Preseason List and one of 20 players named to the Bob Cousy Preseason Watch List. He has added on the Wooden Midseason Top 25 and Lute Olson Midseason Watch List.
- He sits in the top 5 for active players in both scoring (3rd) and assists (2nd).
- Stevens has three double-doubles on the year and already reset one of his own records when he posted 14 assists against Wright State. He is averaging 17.1 points, 7.2 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game while shooting 51.7% from the field and 46.7% behind the arc.
- He became the program's all-time leading scorer against LMU (Dec. 22) when he passed Pat Durham (1985-89) and his 1,980 points.
- Stevens surpassed the 2,000 point mark with his first basket against New Mexico (Jan. 2) and currently sits at 2,065.
- He had a quiet 12 points and nine assists in the win over Air Force.
- Newcomer Joel Scott continues to be a big presence inside for CSU averaging 11.4 points and 5.9 rebounds.
- Scott lived at the free throw line against Air Force going 8-of-10 on the night.
- Nique Clifford has enjoyed his time in Fort Collins transferring to Colorado State from Colorado. He is shooting an impressive 58.8% from the field including 50.0% from behind the arc on his way to averaging 13.5 points and 6.3 rebounds.
- Patrick Cartier missed two games for Colorado State, but since returning has not missed a beat. He is averaging 12.6 points on 59.8% shooting.
- CSU is the only program across all of collegiate men's basketball with not two, but three 2,000 point scorers on their roster. The trio is Isaiah Stevens (2,065), Patrick Cartier (2,230) and Joel Scott (2,664).
- Colorado State leads the Mountain West in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.86), assists per game (19.6), effective field goal percentage (58.8%), field goal percentage (51.5%) and free throw percentage (76.0%).

Scouting the Rebels
Third-year coach Kevin Kruger's Rebels are playing well coming off a road win on Tuesday that snapped Boise State's 22-game home win streak and took Utah State to the wire last Saturday.

Like the Rams, UNLV defeated Creighton during the non-conference season.

It is a balanced attack for the Rebels with five players scoring in double figures, led by Kalib Boone's 13.3 ppg. The addition of his brother Keylan has been a big impact for UNLV once the NCAA two-time transfer rule was changed. He is averaging 10.1 points and 6.1 rebounds in his nine games played.

What's Ahead
Colorado State is on the road for a pair of games next week starting in Reno to face Nevada on Wednesday, January 24 at 8:30 pm.
