FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State women’s soccer team (3-10-2, 0-5-1 MW), was edged Sunday afternoon, 2-1, in a close, back-and-forth match against the New Mexico Lobos (6-6-1, 4-1-1 MW). The Rams entered the score column first with a header-goal in the 15th minute by freshman Hannah Gerdin which was assisted on a beautiful free kick from senior defender Jessica Stauffer. Gerdin now has a school-record five goals on the season, and her 11 are approaching the program record for career points, which currently is held by senior Gianna Bertana at 13.

Just two minutes later the Lobos struck back with a goal from Fort Collins native, Lindsey Guice, who slotted home a corner kick from Dylann O’Connor. New Mexico added to its total with the game-winning goal in the 38th minute with a curling free kick from Quincy Slora that found the upper right corner of the net for a 2-1 lead heading into intermission.

Colorado State had a couple of great opportunities in the second half, including a shot from Gerdin in the 66th minute that beat the New Mexico keeper but bounced off of the post.

The Rams had 12 shots in the contest including five on goal, while the Lobos had 19 total shots and eight on goal.

IN THEIR WORDS…
“She (Gerdin) is starting to understand the effort it takes to be a Division I soccer player and she is embracing that role. She is a goal scorer. Sometimes she is unorthodox out there, but she looks to score and you like that mindset from an attacking player. I hope she gets five more goals this season.” -- CSU Head Coach Bill Hempen

STAT OF THE GAME…
• Colorado State freshman forward Hannah Gerdin scored her program-best fifth goal of the season. Her five goals are also tied for the most by a freshman in the Mountain West.

NOTES…
• Rams’ junior goalkeeper Jesse McGinley added six saves today, giving her 78 on the season. McGinley entered the weekend tied for first in the Mountain West in saves.
• Rams’ Jessica Stauffer registered an assist on CSU’s lone goal, giving her a team-high two assists on the year.
• One yellow card was awarded in the game to New Mexico’s Alyssa Coonrad in the 68 minute
