Rams Drop 2-1 Decision to No. 14 BYU in First-Ever Meeting

CSU rallies behind but can't complete the comeback at South Field
PROVO, Utah -- Colorado State dropped a 2-1 decision to No. 14 BYU on Thursday. The match was played at South Field in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
The Rams weathered a stretch of nine BYU attacking actions from the 76th to the 88th minute without conceding, but they could not find the equalizer they needed.
First Half
- Breckyn Ferrell put CSU's first shot on goal in the sixth minute, forcing a save in her first career start for the Rams.
- BYU answered with a shot and four corner kicks between the 14th and 18th minutes, but the Rams weathered it. Addison Huber turned away Afton Perry's shot in the 24th minute, and CSU generated chances of its own through Skylar Alonso, Kaja Dionne, Kennedy Albertson and Ana Kubiaczyk.
- BYU broke through in the 38th minute on a goal from Mattyn Summers-Oviatt, assisted by Kate Fuller and Lucy Kesler.
- Shadia Valenzuela tested BYU goalkeeper Chelsea Peterson a minute later, but Peterson made the save, and BYU carried a one-goal lead into halftime.
Second Half
- Emma Hamberlin doubled BYU's lead in the 52nd minute, finishing off a Presley Freeman assist.
- CSU answered. Back-to-back corner kicks in the 55th and 56th minutes set up Hadley Delaney, who cut the deficit in half a minute later for her first goal of the season.
- BYU pushed back with five shots between the 61st and 69th minutes. Huber's save on Freeman in the 69th minute kept the Rams within striking distance.
- The Cougars controlled the closing stretch, including a Huber save on Anna Neff in the 87th minute, and held on for the win.
Delaney's goal came on her only shot on frame. Huber played all 90 minutes and finished with three saves, greater than the team's season average of 2.75. Kubiaczyk put one of her two shots on goal, and Ferrell also finished with two shots, including one on frame.
CSU is 1-4-0 overall. BYU improves to 4-1-0.
