A first-half strike from Mathews, her first as a Ram, gave them the lead before Colorado College answered
COLORADO SPRINGS - Colorado State and Colorado College could not be separated Sunday, finishing 1-1 in a match that saw more whistles than goals. The Rams grabbed an early lead, absorbed a late surge, and left with a point.
Stina Mathews put Colorado State in front at 14:39, with Ana Kubiaczyk and Poppy O'Brien earning assists. The match then turned scrappy, with four fouls between 24:12 and 33:24. The Rams were flagged offside three times in the final nine minutes of the half, but they still carried a 1-0 lead into the break.
Colorado College pulled level at 55:59 when Finley Schoenbeck scored, following a corner at 48:21 and a blocked shot. Play grew more physical from there, with several fouls between the 61st and 71st minutes. Colorado College then racked up three shots and three corner kicks from 73:36 to 85:01, but Colorado State did not flinch. Addison Huber made the save on Schoenbeck's shot at 81:41, and the Rams held the line.
They nearly stole it late. Mia Casey fired two shots in the 89th minute, and Regan Wallace saved both, sending the match to a 1-1 finish.
Mathews scored on her lone shot on target and finished with two points. Kubiaczyk and O'Brien each added an assist for one point apiece. Casey led the Rams with two shots, both on goal.
Colorado State is 1-6-2 overall. Colorado College is 2-4-3 overall.
The Rams stay on the road next, visiting Weber State on Sept. 25 at 7 p.m.
