Colorado State goes perfect in week three with Border War win

LARAMIE, Wyo. — The Colorado State volleyball team defeated Wyoming 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-15) on the road Saturday at the UniWyo Sports Complex. CSU hit .396 with 49 kills while limiting Wyoming to .155 and 33 kills in the Rams' third dominant sweep of the week.

CSU maximized a 7-0 opening run in the first set to go up 1-0 with a first set win of 25-18. The Maria Brun service run created immediate separation for the Rams. Kekua Richards and Halle Jameson each had two kills during that start, Brun added a service ace, and Jameson's block finished the run at 7-0 before the Cowgirls took their first timeout. Wyoming worked back to 10-6 and later 15-12, but the Rams kept answering through the middle of the set as Erin Debiec assisted kills to Eve Wilson, Jameson and Sofia Zabjek. With CSU ahead 21-16, Stowell put down a kill, Wilson followed with an ace, and Richards added a block to bring CSU to set point before Richards closed the set with a kill from Debiec. Jameson totaled seven kills alone in the first frame on a .538 efficiency.

CSU finished the second set by scoring the final six points, moving from 19-14 to a 25-14 win behind kills from Richards and Zabjek, a Brun ace, and blocks involving Richards and Jameson. Fetzer's serve helped the Rams stretch a 10-7 advantage to 13-7 as Wyoming committed three straight attack errors, two of them stopped by Zabjek and Wilson together at the net. Wyoming cut into the margin with a three-point stretch to make it 18-13, but Richards answered with two kills over CSU's next three points before the closing run completed the set. Despite their lowest set-by-set hitting percentage coming in set two, CSU prevailed to take a 2-0 lead into intermission.

With its back against the wall, Wyoming help the Rams close to kick off the third set. CSU broke open the third frame with a six-point run, turning a 15-13 edge into a 21-13 lead behind kills from Jameson, Wilson and Stowell, plus blocks involving Wilson and Debiec. Jameson kept CSU in front through the middle of the set with multiple kills, including the point for a 16-13 lead that began the decisive run. Brun added her third service ace of the night for a 23-14 advantage, and Stowell delivered CSU's final two kills as the Rams finished the set 25-15.
