Rams send two to Friday's track finals
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Colorado State track & field opened action at the NCAA West Regionals on Wednesday afternoon, with Kenny Carpenter providing the headline as he broke the program record in the men's 400.

The Mountain West champion in the event, Carpenter was sensational once again as he clocked 45.47, giving him the outdoor program record to join his top indoor 400 mark, which he claimed in March. Carpenter finished second in his heat – earning himself a spot in the event final on Friday – and was sixth overall in the prelims. The Highlands Ranch native will take the stage once again on Friday with a chance to punch his ticket to nationals, needing a top-12 finish to do so.

Carpenter was not the only Ram to work his way into Friday's finals, as Trenton Givens also qualified after impressing in the 110 hurdles. The conference gold medalist in the event, Givens recorded a blazing 13.57 which tied teammate Owen Langdon for the No. 2 time in program history. The Ram senior finished 12th overall, giving him the chance to earn his way to Eugene on Friday. Langdon also competed in the prelims on Wednesday, but the freshman's 13.94 fell just outside of the qualifying range.

Colorado State had several other athletes competing on the day, including Leonardo Ramos and Adam Hellbom in the men's hammer throw. Both Rams were able to record marks in their three attempts, but fell short of a top-12 spot and a trip to nationals. The story was the same for Carsen Bruns in the 400 hurdles, as his time of 51.16 was two spots below the threshold to advance to Friday's final.

Wrapping up the action was Austin Shaffer and Jack Olsen in the javelin. Shaffer (56.35 meters/184-feer-10) saw his best attempt come on his final throw, while Olsen's (56.19m/184-4) came on his first. However, the duo failed to claim a spot at nationals.

The Rams pick up action tomorrow with the women's team taking the stage. The day begins at 8:00 a.m. MT with the hammer throw competition.
