Ovesen, Lee back Tuesday for 3-meter
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz.  – They expected the trip to be a learning experience. It's also one where Sydney Ovesen and Riley Lee can apply them immediately.
Â
The two Colorado State divers competed at their first NCAA Zones E meet on Monday, doing so in a deep and talented field for 1-meter springboard qualifying. Ovesen, a freshman, finished 41st with a score of 209.55, with the sophomore Lee on place back with a score of 209.30 at Northern Arizona. Their scores were not their best of the season, a fact they and coach Seth O'Dea expected for the pair new to the event.
Â
"I think they both had a great attitude and had fun with it," O'Dea said. "They obviously could have performed a little bit better, but we came here to learn and that's definitely what we took away from the day.
Â
"After experiencing the long event and getting to be in a field with talented athletes, it's just do what they did well today with staying positive and just try to dial in a little bit more. Again, do what they know how the best they're able."
Â
With 52 divers each performing six-dive sets, the preliminaries can drag on a bit, with a lag between turns at the board. They will both compete on 3-meter on Tuesday, a chance to take the day's lessons and use them for the next session.
Â
Competition is set to begin at 12:30 a.m. (MT).
