Rams Close out Non-Conference Play on a Win

Strong performances define a hard-fought match
UC RIVERSIDE, Calif – The Colorado State women's tennis team closed out non-conference play on a high note with a 4-3 victory over UC Riverside as they enter Mountain West competition later this week.Â
In singles play, the Rams won three key matches. Leyla Tozin defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3, Diana Lizarazo won 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 at No. 5, and Dylan Voeks closed out the deciding point with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 6. Several matches were decided in tiebreakers, showcasing the team's composure under pressure.Â
"It feels really good to get a team win before conference," coach Mai-Ly Tran said. "We've been putting in the work, and it's nice to see it pay off."Â
In doubles play, Luana Avelar and Sorcha Caves secured a 6-4 victory at No. 1, while Leyla Tozin and Lizarazo added a 6-3 win at No. 2. Dylan and Logan Voeks tied 5-5 and left unfinished. Â
Looking ahead, the Rams are focused on carrying the momentum and lessons learned from non-conference play into Mountain West competition. The team's growth with each match has set the tone for the challenges ahead.Â
"It's all about our mindset going forward. We have improved with each match in non-conference play," coach Tran said. "We have the talent, skill set, and team members to be successful. We are all excited to kick off conference play at home." Â
