CSU makes an early start to outdoor season with Dr. Dan Capriogilo Invitational

FORT COLLINS – Colorado State track and field begin their indoor season campaign this Friday and Saturday in Pueblo at the Dr. Dan Capriogilo Invitational. The men's side will begin a quest for a season sweep of the Mountain West Conference while the women's team once again looks to send athletes to NCAA Outdoor Nationals.

MEET INFORMATION
Dr. Dan Capriogilo Invitational
Date: Mar. 20-21
Location: CSU-Pueblo Thunderbowl | Pueblo, Colo.
Schedule/Info: HERE

MEET NOTES
  • The men's side claimed the 2025 MW outdoor championships as well as this year's Indoor Championship and embark on a quest to defend their titles. CSU sets up better on both the men's and women's sides in outdoor season due to the added throwing and hurdle events; both strong points for the program.
  • Colorado State sent two athletes to the NCAA Indoor Conference Championships in Kajsa Borrman and Makayla Long, both of which represented CSU in the throws. The Rams had several athletes on the bubble including Kyle Bigley, Neya Jamison, Mateo Munoz, Ndayiragije Shukurani, Taylor Waters and more. With the top 48 athletes per region qualifying for the NCAA West Prelims, the Rams are well positioned to send a plethora of athletes to the qualifying weekend.
  • The addition of discus and javelin bids well for the Rams with powerhouses on both sides. Klaire Kovatch made a trip to NCAA Nationals last season in the discus, and Washington transfer Jack Olsen adds to the men's side in the javelin.
  • Track and field saw several program records fall over indoor season and can expect similar results this spring. Kenny Carpenter has his eyes on the men's 400 record after snatching the indoor record. Shukurani and Waters have similar expectations in the high jump and pole vault, respectively. Bigley and Borrman will quest for the hammer throw records as well.
  • Outdoor season will see the return of Ismael Dembele, who fell just one spot shy of qualifying for outdoor nationals in the triple jump a year ago. He holds CSU's program record in the outdoor triple jump.
