MEN: 138, 1st
WOMEN: 73, 3rd

RENO, Nev. - Colorado State men's track and field claimed its third-straight Mountain West Indoor Conference on Saturday at the Reno Tahoe Convention Center. The women's side earned three gold medals and earned a third place 73 points, while the men won nine total medals to win the event with138 points.

Jumping For Gold
CSU entered the high jump with four competitors, a pivotal moment on the quest for the championship.

For Jesse Imemba and Ndayiragije Shukurani the duo cleared the 2.13-meter/6-11-feet-3.75 on their first attempt, launching into a tie for the top spot. "Shuku" then cleared the 2.16/7-1 mark on his second attempt, claiming a solo gold medal.

Shukurani then went to 2.21/7-3, attempting to qualify for NCAA Nationals, but fell short after three valiant attempts. Shuku is CSU's all-time leader in the indoor high jump and ends the year just a few spots outside of national qualifying range.

A Throwing Legacy
Colorado State is known for the throws, and that rang true throughout both Friday and Saturday. The Rams claimed two golds, a silver and three bronzes, capped off by a Makayla Long shot-put win.

Long came into the week sporting the 17th best throw in the nation, one spot out of the national qualifying range. The senior had an impressive first throw, then unleashed a bomb of 17.69/58-0.5 shooting her into the top 10 in the nation and first on the day. Long secured her spot at Indoor Nationals and will travel to Fayetteville, Arkansas with weight throw gold medalist, Kajsa Borrman.

Erin Brown nabbed her first ever conference medal with her throw of 15.34/50-4, adding six points to the CSU throw squad's total. Klaire Kovatch and Borrman finished sixth and seventh, respectively.

The men's shot-put proved its importance to the win as the Rams added eight points. Kyle Bigley earned bronze for his first shot put conference medal, while Alex Jensen added two more points in seventh. Bigley set a personal best to put him fourth all time for CSU at 19.01/61-3.5.

Rams Take Two Golds From 60-meter Hurdles

Colorado State knew it would take a big score in the 60 hurdles on the men's side to get things done, and that is exactly what it got. Owen Langdon won the event narrowly, running a 7.81 to claim gold as a freshman. Langdon is already second all time for CSU in the event and now has his first gold medal for the Rams.

Trenton Givens offered support in third place, as the Northern Arizona transfer claimed his first medal as a member of the green and gold. Carsen Bruns added to the total, running 8.13 to finish eighth and grab a point.

Neya Jamison ran as the only member of the women's team in the final and made the most of it. Jamison ran a personal best (8.26) and needed every bit of it to beat UNLV's Jaci Wright at 8.27. Jamison is now the third fastest in CSU history and owns the hardware to prove it.

JamisonWaters Slams the Door and Makes History
Taylor Waters has been elite in his freshman season and today he elevated his ceiling even higher. The Colorado native finished second place behind national qualifier Logan Hammer of Utah State. Waters also set the school record in the pole vault (5.35/17-6.5), a mark he has been chasing since his first collegiate event.

Waters' record-breaking vault was the nail in the coffin for the opposition as his eight points served as a dagger to the conference. Sam Mrky produced a point of his own due to his eighth-place finish.

Carpenter Strikes Again

Kenny Carpenter has been on a tear this indoor season, setting a school record in the 400 for the second time. Carpenter once again inched his way closer to the elusive 45-second mark running a 46.13 which awarded the Colorado native a silver medal.

Carpenter ends his indoor season with the fastest 400 in school history, the fastest 4x400 team in school history, a silver medal and a top 40 time in division one.

Around the Track
The Rams picked up hardware in a handful of other events, starting with freshman Ruby Schwelm in the mile. Schwelm came into the weekend in the latter half of the top 10 for the event but made noise after running the fastest prelim on Friday. Schwelm made her move toward the end of the race, securing the first medal of her young career.

Jamison Taylor added another medal to his total with a third-place finish in the triple jump (15.25/50-0.5). Taylor once again led the event to start but was passed down the stretch by two more members of the 50-foot club. Shukurani ended his triple jump campaign in the fourth spot, stamping the men's side of the flight crew's conference campaign at 40 total points.

Important scores came via the men's 800, where CSU's Ethan Mann and Tanner Kaufman combined for five. Parker Westermann also earned a singular point in the mile while Tyler Colwell added three of his own in the 60 meters.

Junior Joy Nnantah put together a solid run in the women's triple jump, ending the day in sixth place and jumping into seventh place all time for CSU (12.34/40-6).

Up Next
Borrman and Long will make their way to the NCAA Indoor National Championships for a chance at the ultimate prize. Borrman will compete on Friday (Mar. 13) with Long hitting the stage on Saturday (Mar. 14). It will be Borrman's second appearance at nationals and Longs first.
