Rams’ Win Streak Comes to End at UTSA

Team shut out for second time
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The second step of the leg proved to be a tricky one.
Colorado State's two-game run in the state of Texas ended with a 1-0 loss to UTSA, snapping a three-game winning streak for the Rams. Stymied offensively most of the day by the Roadrunners, the team falls to 3-2-1 overall, 2-2-0 in road matches. It was just the second time this year the Rams have not found the net.
The hosts (also 3-2-1) put away the game winner in the 50th minute on a goal by Tyler Coker. Working the ball to the right of Shayna Ross, she fired off a shot which was deflected in the front of the net and found the corner.
In the first half, Colorado State generated some opportunities – the best being an Ali Yoshida feed which just missed the head of a diving Taite DeLange in the box -- just no shots on goal. The Rams were outgunned 5-3 in the first 45, with UTSA putting two shots on the frame, leading to one Shayna Ross save.
In the 81st minute, the Rams had a couple of big chances on back-to-back series, as Maggie Altman had a point-blank shot turned away and Liv Stutzman had a header tipped back. That led to another set-piece chance, with a shot by Katy Coffin shot turned away as UTSA goalie Jasmine Kessler, followed by a header by Stutzman which was just north of the crossbar. Kessler finished the match with those three saves as both teams were credited with four shots on goal. The Rams were outshot overall, 12-9.
Colorado State will take an 11-day break before returning to CSU Soccer Field for a home match with Denver on Sept. 12 (7 p.m.)
