Rams make first appearance of 2018 at CSU Soccer Field leading up to next week’s exhibition at Kansas

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State women's soccer team played to a scoreless draw in its intrasquad Green & White Scrimmage on Sunday in its first appearance of the 2018 fall campaign at CSU Soccer Field.

Although the Rams kept a clean sheet on each side of the pitch, each team generated its share of scoring chances. The top chance in the first half came off a run made by sophomore Karli Eheart, who received the ball and created separation down the right side of the field. Eheart played the ball in front of the goal to an open Ariell Hopkins, who fired the ball just wide of the net.

Eheart also added a shot on goal to her line. For the White team, each of Hannah Gerdin, Halley Havlicek, Alex Lanning, Caeley Lordemann and Ally Murphy-Pauletto were credited with shots on goal as their team generated more chances overall. The most dangerous of those was on a Lordemann attempt, as her try was turned aside by a diving Sydney Hall to keep the match scoreless in its waning minutes.

Among the festivities of the Green & White Scrimmage were meet-and-greet and autograph opportunities. Those activities, originally scheduled for after Sunday's intrasquad match, took place on the floor of Moby Arena as fans met with players and coaches during a lightning delay.

IN THEIR WORDS
Colorado State head coach Bill Hempen
"Our ladies are competing hard - we may have ended up stretching our kids maybe a little too far today. What we talked about as a team was that you had two groups playing out there, each knowing exactly what the other was trying to do, which is challenging offensively. The good news from that standpoint is that we didn't give up any goals. Even though that means we also didn't score any goals, that's about right given the circumstances of knowing what the other team is doing. We're just trying to perfect what we want to do with the players that we have, and hopefully we'll be a little bit better at doing what we do than our opponents moving forward."

On the fan support:
"I was hoping for our scrimmage that we could get that amount of kids that were out here, and we did. It was great to see, and our ladies are great about interacting with the young ones. It's fun to have them here, and it ended up being a beautiful day."

NOTES
- Because of a lightning delay, Sunday's scrimmage began at 1:14 p.m. MT rather than its previously scheduled Noon MT start time.
- Sunday's scrimmage was contested over a 35-minute first half and a 17-minute second half rather than over normal regulation 45-minute halves.

UP NEXT
The Colorado State women's soccer team travels to Lawrence, Kan., next weekend for an exhibition match at Kansas. The match is slated for a Noon MT/1 p.m. CT start on Sunday, Aug. 12 from Rock Chalk Park.
