Lordemann scores in final minutes to lift Rams to Senior Day win over Nevada

Rams conclude 2018 home schedule with win over Wolf Pack, close season on Friday at Wyoming

FORT COLLINS, Colo.  – Junior midfielder Caeley Lordemann scored for the Colorado State women's soccer team in the 88th minute to lift the Rams to a 1-0 Senior Day victory over the Nevada Wolf Pack on Sunday from CSU Soccer Field.

Lordemann's strike was her fifth of the season and third in conference play, both team highs. The Greeley, Colo., native fired from the top of the penalty area, bending the ball under the bar and into the top-left corner of the net. Colorado State (6-8-4, 3-5-2 MW) held the Wolf Pack without a shot for the remainder of the match to seal the shutout win. For the match, the Rams outshot Nevada (4-12-2, 1-9-0 MW), 15-6.

While neither team scored in the first half, Colorado State controlled possession for majority of the first 45 minutes and had the opening half's best scoring chance in the 32nd minute. On a corner kick opportunity, senior Makenzi Taylor served the ball to the left side of the box and found the head of senior Lexi Swenson. Her redirect angled toward the top-right corner, but Nevada goalkeeper Kendal Stovall made a diving, fingertips save to keep the ball out of the net.

Before Lordemann's game-winning goal, Colorado State had also nearly broken the scoreless 11 minutes earlier. Senior forward Kaija Ornes made a run down the right side of the field and remained in possession as she continued her run into the goal area. The senior then played the ball across the goal mouth from the right side to the left, just finding the foot of Taylor, who was crashing the net. However, the sliding Taylor was not able to get enough of her foot on it and the keeper had time to react to her shot.

STAT OF THE MATCH
With her goal on Sunday, junior midfielder Caeley Lordemann takes over as the Rams' all-time career goals leader. Her eighth tally as a Ram passes current senior forward Hannah Gerdin (seven from 2015-18) on CSU's all-time career list.

IN THEIR WORDS
Colorado State head coach Bill Hempen
"The whole group responded so well from Friday to today, and I'm so proud of them for that. We had gotten closer and closer as the game got longer, and we finally just had the right player in the right place at the right time. We've been in search of moments like that all year long, and KK (Caeley Lordemann) just buried it. That's a great way for this particular group of seniors to end their home careers. We're looking forward to the one more that we have left to play at Wyoming."

On this year's group of seniors:
"Each of these ladies that are graduating now are in that group that really took a chance on us. Our seniors laid a new standard for the groups coming in after them. They'll be sorely missed, that's for sure."
