Swimming and diving: Rams' Fuller sweeps 100, 200 Backstroke events

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. –Breann Fuller won her second conference title Saturday, the last day of the 2010 Mountain West Conference championships at the Oklahoma City Community College Aquatics Center.
Fuller’s performance in the 200 Backstroke gave her a sweep in the Backstroke genre of the championships for the second year in a row. In the 200 Saturday, Fuller clocked a 1-minute, 56.27-second swim, which broke CSU’s school record (1:56.74) set by Fuller at the 2009 championships. The record-breaking swim was also Fuller’s second NCAA-B cut of the championships.
On Friday, Fuller won the 100 Backstroke, with a 54.11, also an NCAA-B cut time.
Mari Anna Loftness joined her teammate by also turning in a personal-best performance Saturday and a sixth-place finish. Loftness recorded a 2:17.66 in the 200 Breast, which edged out her previous best of 2:18.75.
The Rams left all they had in the pool, but in the end they finished sixth in the final team standings. BYU defended its conference championship title with a total of 703 points. Wyoming (674), San Diego State (589), UNLV (386) and Utah (377) filled the rest of the top five spots. CSU led the bottom half with a team total of 366, while TCU (233), New Mexico (214) and Air Force (150) finished the championships in respective order.
