Albuquerque, N.M. - On a night where everything seemed to go right for Colorado State, Jason Smith had a night he'll likely remember for a long time. Smith led CSU to an 88-79 win over New Mexico in a hostile environment in The Pit in Albuquerque, N.M. Saturday afternoon.

Smith surpassed the 1,000 career point plateau, the 16th Ram to do so in the history of the program. He also had his sixth double-double in his last seven games with a career-high tying 28 points and 11 rebounds in the game on 11-of-15 shooting from the floor.

The Rams jumped on top of the Lobos early leading by as many as 19 in the first half and by 21 with 2:08 to play in the game. UNM closed the gap quickly making the lead only seven with 42 seconds left.

CSU held off the Lobos knocking down free throws in the final seconds of the game.

CSU came out red hot shooting over 73 percent in the first half and finished the game 31-of-49 from the floor. They were also 11-of-20 from three-point range in the game.

Smith's 28 points was followed by 17 from Cory Lewis, 15 from Tim Denson and 12 from Stephan Gilling off the bench.

UNM was led by 17 from Tony Danridge but were outrebounded by the Rams 35-21 and shot only 30-of-67 from the floor.

CSU (11-3, 1-1) will host Utah in Moby Arena Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
