GAME NOTES
- Colorado State welcomes its 25th head coach in Jim Mora who was hired in November. He comes to CSU from UConn where he led the Huskies for four seasons, leading them to back-to-back nine win seasons in the final two years.
- Mora is one of six former NFL head coaches who are guiding college programs in 2026 when he begins his tenure this week.
- A new head coach means a lot of new faces on the roster for the Rams in 2026. CSU welcomes 76 fresh faces to the program with 41 of them being transfers. Twenty-one of those 41 newcomers will be on the offensive side of the ball.
- Two of those newcomers on the offensive side of the ball find their names on national watch lists entering the season. Running back Mel Brown and tight end Juice Vereen find themselves on their respective positions watch list. Both came to CSU from UConn where they played for Mora. Brown is on the Doak Walker list after his two years at UConn led to 935 yards on 150 carrer and four scores. Vereen, played one year in Stores grabbing 33 receptions for 310 yards and five touchdowns in 10 games.
- There is some continuity amongst the change for CSU on the staff with the return of defensive coordinator Tyson Summers.
- Colorado State enters its inaugural season in the Pac-12 joining Boise State, Fresno State, Gonzaga (all sports, but football), Oregon State, San Diego State, Texas State, Washington State and Utah State.
- 2026 will mark the third straight season Colorado State hosts seven home games. CSU is 8-6 at Canvas Stadium over the past two years. Saturday's game will mark the 118th playing of the Border War dating back to the beginning in 1899. The Rams lead the all-time series 59-52-5 and don't count the inaugural game of the series - a Wyoming forfeit. When playing in Fort Collins, the Rams are 33-24-1, including 2-2 inside Canvas Stadium.
- The 2026 game marks the 59th playing for the Bronze Boot. Wyoming holds a 32-26.
- The Bronze Boot trophy was introduced in 1968. It was worn in the Vietnam War by Captain Dan J. Romero, a Colorado State University ROTC Instructor.
- As a part of celebrating the Bronze Boot and both universities strong ROTC programs, the game is also Military Appreciation Day.
- The home opener also marks the start of the 10th season of Canvas Stadium. Colorado State is 24-27 all-time in the on-campus stadium. Just like the inaugural game, CSU will be having a stripe out for it.
