CSU hits a season-high .398 in a dominate road performance
SAN MARCOS, Tex. — Colorado State volleyball defeated Texas State 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 25-21) on Saturday, hitting .398 and recording 45 kills. Texas State was held to a .108 hitting percentage and only two blocks.Â
The Rams broke open the first set, scoring the opening point on a Zabjek kill and maintaining a lead through the early exchanges as Zabjek, Eve Wilson and Stowell each put away kills. The Rams created separation on a six-point scoring run following a Kekua Richards kill with five straight points on Erin Debiec's serves, including three assisted blocks and kills by Sofia Zabjek and Ella Stowell. After Texas State stopped the run at 14-7, CSU answered with more points off Texas State errors, including a Halle Jameson-Wilson block that pushed the margin to 19-8. Jameson added two late kills, Silvie Graetzer followed with a kill and a solo block, and the Rams finished the set 25-13 on a Texas State service error.Â
CSU faced a 5-2 deficit early in the second set but worked their way back to an 8-5 lead with six straight points, including five on Karsyn Fetzer's serves. Jameson delivered two kills, Wilson and Zabjek combined on a block, and Wilson added a kill on the series. Texas State tightened the Rams' lead to 9-8, but CSU answered with another five-point scoring run, highlighted by back-to-back Debiec kills and a Wilson finish from Debiec. Debiec later added a service ace to put the Rams up 17-12, and Richards supplied three kills down the stretch. Richards' kill brought up set point at 24-20, and the Rams finished the second set 25-20 on a Texas State attack error.Â
The Rams opened the third set with a 3-0 lead on back-to-back kills from Debiec, with Zabjek joining Richards on a block. Texas State answered with a 4-3 lead, and the teams traded points through the middle of the set, with kills from Zabjek, Jameson, Wilson and Stowell helping CSU repeatedly pull even. Consecutive Texas State attack errors put the Rams up 12-10, with the set later reaching a 15-15 draw. CSU widened the margin on Wilson kills at 16-15, 18-16, 19-16 and 23-20, Sophie Stephenson added a service ace, and CSU reached set point on a Texas State attack error before Debiec closed the set on a kill. Â
