Hard fought effort highlights road match
PROVO, Utah – Determined, resilient, and competitive, every point was fought with intensity, but Colorado State's women's tennis team couldn't gain an upper hand against BYU.

The Rams battled in Provo but fell to the Cougars 6-1 in a challenging road matchup. The Rams' lone victory came in singles when Leyla Tozin won the first set 6-4 at No. 3 and her opponent could not finish the match.
"I am proud of this team for their grit tonight," coach Mai-Ly Tran said. "It was really fun to see them open to working on things they may be uncomfortable with."
In doubles, BYU claimed the opening point, winning all three matches. Hanna Haber and Tozin fell 6-2 at No. 2, Luana Avelar and Sorcha Caves lost 6-4 at No. 1, and Annika Planinsek and Dylan Voeks came up just short in a 6-5 match at No. 3.
In singles, BYU won five of six as Avelar lost 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1, and Caves dropped a close 6-3, 7-5 match at No. 2. Planinsek fell 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4, and Voeks was defeated 6-1, 6-4 at No. 5. In the final match of the lineup, Hanna Haber battled hard at No. 6 but fell 7-5, 6-3 to Karina Mohamed. All were in straight sets, but by close scores.
"I'm really pleased with the team's composure during the match," Tran said." "There were many bright spots on each court, and I feel like we are heading in the right direction. I am really proud of them trusting this process and we are excited for out next match."
The Rams return home for their next match against North Florida at the Fort Collins Country Club on February 28.
