Tests from new opponents await squad
FORT COLLINS – The fall has been productive for a first-year coach getting used to his roster, and vice versa, the players to the new mentor. It's also been a bit repetitive.
The final weekend will give Colorado State coach Blake Mosley and his Rams some new teams to face as they travel to San Diego State for the Aztec Fall Invitational on Nov. 6-8. The Rams will once again run into Colorado and Denver, but a trio of San Diego area schools will be in attendance, as will Stanford.
The tourney is one more chance for Mosley to learn a bit more about the players he inherited when he was named the coach late in the summer.
"I think it's just more of the same, just figuring out who they are on the court and how they handle pressure," Mosley said. "And you notice that it's going to be a great competitive weekend; a lot of good teams. You've got Stanford, which was in the original Pac-12. It's always good to see new teams and see how we play. It gets kind of boring and monotonous competing against ourselves day in and day out."
Â
The players have used the first couple of months to adapt to Mosley's style of coaching, which senior Annika Planinsek said has gone very well. She said he's brought a fresh perspective to some aspects of the game which have been welcomed by the team.
Â
With one more tournament on the schedule (live results), then virtually two months before dual season starts in January, her focus for the upcoming three days is rather simple.
Â
"For us as players, it's confidence. This is our last tournament before we start our spring season in January," she said. "So kind of building up the confidence to play matches and just knowing what we need to work for in the future, in the months before that. So just confidence; feeling good out there."
