Rams Drop Nail-Biter to Broncos

1/10/2026 3:26:00 PM | Women's Basketball

12-game road winning streak snapped in Boise.

BOISE, Idaho — Saturday's game was a back-and-forth battle down the stretch, and in the end Colorado State fell just short to Boise State, 62-59, at ExtraMile Arena.

The Broncos' (12-5, 3-3 MW) defensive game plan was clear: Use a zone to pack the paint and force the Rams (13-4, 4-2 MW) to make shots from the outside. The ball was moving well in the first quarter as CSU assisted five of its eight baskets, helping build a seven-point advantage after the first quarter.

Hannah Ronsiek and the Rams continued to knock down their shots from outside, connecting on 7-of-18 attempts from deep which helped CSU jump out to a 33-27 lead at halftime. Ronsiek finished the first half with a game-high 11 points which included three buckets from behind the arc.

Colorado State had been dominant in third quarter this season, but Boise State keyed in coming out of the break and made adjustments that stalled the Rams' offense. CSU managed just two points before the media timeout, and right out of the break the Broncos scored a bucket to take their first lead since making the opening bucket of the game. As the game entered the final period, Boise State carried a 44-42 advantage.

It was back-and-forth across the final 10 minutes, with CSU finding ways to be productive inside once again. After a Jadyn Fife jumper gave CSU a three-point lead with six minutes remaining, Boise State rattled off an 8-0 scoring run that captured the momentum of the game, which it used to close out a victory and snap Colorado State's 12-game winning streak.

The Rams defense did its job against Boise State's 3-point attack, limiting the fourth-best 3-point shooting team in the country to just 26.3 points. Lexus Bargesser's 13 points led the way for CSU offensively, joining Ronsiek as the two double-figure scorers for the Rams.

How It Happened
Colorado State came out strong in the opening quarter, taking a 21-14 lead over Boise behind sharp shooting from behind the arc. The Broncos' Dani Bayes kicked off the scoring with a three-pointer, thanks to an assist from Libby Hutton at 9:48. The Rams answered with a series of inside plays, including layups by Madelyn Bragg and Brooke Carlson. Bragg also shone defensively with two blocks. Kloe Froebe expanded the lead with a fast-break three at 1:24, followed by a three-pointer from Fife with 44 seconds left. Boise's Tatum Thompson closed the gap slightly with a jumper to end the quarter.

McKenna Murphy started the second quarter with a three-pointer to stretch CSU's lead. Bayes quickly answered with a three of her own at 8:53. A layup by Thompson at 8:21 further chipped away at the lead. Ronsiek hit a crucial three-pointer at 7:24, assisted by Murphy, to keep the Rams ahead. In the last minute, Bargesser nailed a three-pointer, allowing CSU to finish the half leading 33-27.

Boise State picked up speed in the third, with Natalie Pasco hitting a fast-break three-pointer at 9:06. Froebe responded for CSU by sinking two free throws at 8:33, keeping the Rams slightly ahead. Yet, Hutton's back-to-back layups, with an assist from Bayes, swung the lead to Boise, making it 38-35. Marta Leimane's three-pointer at 2:47 tied it up at 38, but Thompson's jumper and free throws in the closing minute put Boise State ahead 44-42 by the quarter's end.

The fourth quarter was a nail-biter. Bargesser's layup and free throw gave CSU an early lead at 9:41. Thompson answered with two free throws at 9:30, briefly putting Boise in front. Carlson's layup at 8:17 gave the Rams a three-point edge, but Mya Hansen's three-pointer at 4:19 shifted momentum back to Boise State. Murphy's three-pointer at 2:56 brought CSU within two points, but a late layup by Pasco with 16 seconds left sealed Boise State's 62-59 victory.
