Richards Earns Second Defensive Player of the Week Award

Redshirt sophomore adds 14 blocks against Buffs
FORT COLLINS – Colorado State volleyball middle blocker Kekua Richards was named the Old Trapper Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season after leading the Rams to two wins against Colorado to keep the Golden Spike in Fort Collins.Â
Richards totaled 12 kills over the two matches in the final week of the non-conference slate. She also finished the weekend with 19.5 points, totaling 14 blocks, finishing with 63 total blocks heading into conference play.
Out of the redshirt sophomore's 14 blocks against Colorado, seven came in the dominant first match Thursday, with a sweep against the Buffs. Richards has been a force on defense for the Rams throughout non-conference play and looks to continue as the Rams start conference this week.Â
The team will kick off its conference play on the road against Wyoming on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. before hosting Nevada on Friday at Moby Arena at 12:00 pm in annual State Pride match.Â
