Rams Surge in Second Half

12/13/2025 5:24:00 PM | Women's Basketball

30-point third quarter propels 10th-straight road win

SAN FRANCISCO — Colorado State women's basketball battled through a difficult first half to defeat San Francisco 69-52 to round out nonconference play and improve to 9-2 overall.

After a rock fight of a first half in which the Rams led 27-24 at the break, CSU came out of the gates swinging in the second half and posted a monster 30 points in the third frame to take full control of the game. The run was spurred by Lexus Bargesser – who scored 13 of her game-high 22 points in the third – and Hannah Ronsiek who knocked down two of her four triples.

The Ram defense stayed strong all night long, forcing 19 turnovers and holding the Dons to just 28.3% shooting from the field – the sixth time this season CSU has held an opponent below 30% shooting from the floor. It also marked the ninth time in 11 games Colorado State has held its opponent below 60 points, a testament to its commitment on that end of the floor.

Bargesser's well-rounded performance also included eight rebounds, four assists and three steals, leading CSU in every category. Ronsiek finished the night with 13 points, while Kloe Froebe chipped in 12. The win was Colorado State's 10th-straight on the road dating back to last season, a top-three streak nationally.

How it Happened
The first quarter was a nail-biter, with both teams battling hard. Bargesser got things going for the Rams with a jumper at 9:27, but Aina Cargol hit a three-pointer for the Dons, nudging them ahead 6-5 at 7:17. Froebe kept it tight with two free throws at 1:12 to tie the game at 13, yet the Dons pulled ahead. Sol Castro's free throws at 0:15 capped the quarter with a 15-13 advantage for the Dons.

The second quarter saw CSU shift gears, overcoming an early deficit. Froebe leveled the score at 17 with a layup at 7:38, assisted by Bargesser, who quickly added a fast-break jumper, pushing CSU ahead. Brooke Carlson chipped in with a layup, putting CSU up 19-18. Madelyn Bragg posted a layup and two free throws, stretching the Rams' lead to 25-20. Although the Dons' Candy Edokpaigbe ended the quarter with a layup, CSU stayed ahead 27-24 at halftime.

Bargesser led the Rams' charge in the third quarter, starting with a layup just 17 seconds in. She kept the pressure on with a steal and free throws at 8:39, plus a fast-break layup at 8:23. Ronsiek added a three-pointer at 7:13 to widen the gap. Despite efforts from the Dons' Mara Neira and Natasa Tausova, CSU held firm. Froebe closed the quarter with a layup in the final 17 seconds, leaving CSU up 57-41.

CSU maintained their momentum in the fourth quarter, cruising to a 69-52 win. Carlson started things off with a layup at 9:18, and Ronsiek nailed a three-pointer at 8:44, assisted by Bargesser. The Dons, highlighted by a three-pointer from Paula Tirado at 9:02, couldn't shift the tide. CSU's defense, including a key block by Ronsiek, kept them on top. Bargesser wrapped things up with two free throws in the final moments, sealing the Rams' victory.
