Howell Named Mountain West Freshman of the Week

Howell is the first offensive or defensive freshman to earn the award twice this season.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - For the second time this season, Colorado State defensive back Jack Howell has been named the Mountain West Freshman of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.

With the honor, Howell becomes the first offensive or defensive freshman to earn the award twice in one season. 

Howell received the honor on the heels of a a season-best 11-tackle performance at Hawaii. It was the third time this season Howell posted double-digit tackles and the second in as many weeks. On the year, his 64 tackles are fourth-most among all Rams and second-most in the defensive backfield.

He also added 1.0 tackles for loss, bringing his total to 3.5 on the season - the most among all Ram defensive backs.

Earlier in the month, Howell was named to the watch list for the Shaun Alexander Award, given to the nation's top freshman. He was the only Mountain West player named to the list.
