Head Coach Tom Hilbert signed eight players to join his squad in 2020

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State volleyball head coach Tom Hilbert announced the addition of eight student-athletes to continue their careers at CSU following high school graduation.

Ruby Kayser | 5'8, L/DS | Canby, Oregon | Canby HS
Ruby will join the Rams following graduation in the spring of 2020 after signing with CSU on Nov. 13… Four-year letter winner for Terri Jo Schlatter at Canby HS in Canby, Oregon… Three-time first team All-League in the Three Rivers League… Candis Carter Defensive Award winner at EMC as a junior… two-time CHS Coaches Award recipient… Named Most Inspirational as a junior… In the classroom was an Honor Roll and Key Club member… Parents are Tracey Shimmin and Kevin Kayser and has a twin brother Chaz… Favorite athletes are Holly McPeak and Sarah Hughes.

Chose Colorado State because…
"I instantly fell in love with Fort Collins, the volleyball program is competitive and the school offers lots of academic diversity so I can discover what I would like to do in the future. I felt at home when I visited CSU and I cannot wait to make my mark on the school and the volleyball program."

Tom Hilbert on Ruby Kayser…
"Ruby Kayser has great ability for lateral movement and speed. She plays the game at a very high level, especially defensively. If her serve/receive progresses, and she can do that skill well, she will find herself on the court."

Naeemah Weathers | 6'1 MB | Monument, Colorado | Palmer Ridge HS
Naeemah will join the Rams following graduation in the spring of 2020 after signing with CSU on Nov. 13… Four-year letter winner for Trevor Sullivan at Palmer Ridge HS in Monument, Colorado… Was named team captain as a senior… Plans to study psychology… Parents are Dorothy and Robrandon and has five siblings… Favorite athlete is Colin Kaepernick.

Chose Colorado State because…
"The atmosphere that I felt from the coaches and girls on the team was almost like being accepted into a family. It was not like any other college that I had visited. It was close to home, the campus was beautiful, and everything fit for me."

Tom Hilbert on Naeemah Weathers…
Naeemah Weathers is a Denver player and very raw athletically, but jumps extremely high and moves very fast. She will be development player; she is typical of what we have done in the program – taking players who need to learn how to play the game at a higher level but possess the athletic ability to be very good. She has some unbelievable natural ability and I expect a few years down the road people seeing a very dynamic player."

Barrett Power | 5'8, S | Lincoln, Nebraska | Lincoln Christian School
Barrett will join the Rams following graduation in the spring of 2020 after signing with CSU on Nov. 13… Four-year letter winner for Vikki Power at Lincoln Christian School in Lincoln, Nebraska… Two-year All-Conference member in the Centennial Conference… Named team captain since her sophomore season… Earned All-State honors as a sophomore and junior… Was also a three-year letter winner in basketball earning a State Championship title as a freshman and runner-up as a junior… In the classroom was a three-time Academic Letter Winner and Academic All-State… Was also a part of the National Honors Society… Parents are Vikki and Troy Power and has three siblings… Her mother Vikki was her high school coach…

Chose Colorado State because…
"I don't think I can put my finger on any one thing that drew me to CSU because there was so much I loved about it. The coaching staff is amazing and the opportunity to play for such an elite program like CSU was too good to pass up. I love the campus and the community surrounding CSU in Fort Collins. I love that the girls on the team are like a family, and that I am not too far away from home."

Tom Hilbert on Barrett…
"We are really fortunate to get Barrett; she is willing to come in as a backup setter. She plays for a great club team in Nebraska Juniors and she understands the game very well. We believe in Ciera Zimmerman, but we know that you can't go into a season with one setter on the roster; so Barrett is really filling that void for us and is really a good player that will help us and contribute."

Helena Perez | 5'6, L/DS | Los Gatos, California | Carondelet HS
Helena will join the Rams following graduation in the spring of 2020 after signing with CSU on Nov. 13… Four-year letter winner for Jerry Mix at Carondelet HS in Concord, California… Was a varsity captain and team MVP… Plans to study business… Parents are Eunice and Ron Perez and has two siblings… Favorite athlete is Klay Thompson.

Chose Colorado State because…
"It is the best of both worlds. I will have access to great education and I will be able to participate at the highest level of competitive volleyball. In addition, the incredible school spirit and supportive environment is something I look forward to being a part of."

Tom Hilbert on Helena…
"Helena is a defensive specialist from The Bay area and plays for a very very accomplished club in Vision Volleyball Club. Helena can come in and possibility play a role very quickly for us. I really think she is a good defensive player and good ball handler."

Alyssa Groves | 6'4, OPP | Slayton, Minnesota | Murray County Central
Alyssa will join the Rams following graduation in the spring of 2020 after signing with CSU on Nov. 13… Four-year letter winner for Kate DeLong at Murray County Central in Slayton, Minnesota… Three-time All-Conference honoree from the Red Rock Conference… In the classroom was a four-year Honor Roll member and a part of the National Honor Society… Plans to study health and exercise science… Parents are Dawn and Randy Groves… Favorite athlete is Kerri Walsh Jennings.

Chose Colorado State because…
"The campus is one of a kind. Fort Collins is a beautiful and friendly place to be. When I first toured CSU, I knew right away that I wanted to go there. CSU also has a phenomenal volleyball program that I cannot wait to be a part of!"

Tom Hilbert on Alyssa…
"Alyssa is a left-handed potential opposite, who is a really big physical player. She is more of a developmental player since she is coming off an injury, but we felt like we were able to get a really good, under recruited player. Had she not gotten hurt, many of the larger conferences in the country might have recruited her. I'm excited about Alyssa and she is someone who is likely to be redshirted maybe, and developed into the future."

Karina Leber | 6'3, MB | Trevor Wisconsin | Wilmot Union HS
Karina will join the Rams following graduation in the spring of 2020 after signing with CSU on Nov. 13… Four-year letter winner for Josh Price at Wilmot Union HS in Trevor, Wisconsin… As a freshman was named to All-County HM and PrepVolleyball Frosh 59 HM… Her sophomore year she again was recognized by PrepVolleyball as a 79 HM… During her junior year she was named to the All Southern Lakes Conference Second Team, All Kenosha County First Team and All-State Honorable Mention … As a senior she earned PrepVolleyball Senior Ace award… She is also a two-time Wilmot HS MVP.

Chose Colorado State because…
"It is perfect for me because of the excellent volleyball program and high academics. The beautiful campus and many outdoor activities will round out my experience there. The staff and players who I have met made me feel welcome and I am excited that Fort Collins will be my home for the next four years. I cannot wait to contribute to the success of the volleyball program. I'm ready to make history as a Ram."

Tom Hilbert on Karina…
"Karina is a well-trained and savvy middle attacker coming in as a freshman. She started for her club team for a long time, she is very powerful, especially on the slide, and she is a great blocker. We expect her to be competing for a starting position right away."

Genesis Sheridan | 6'1, MB | Crystal Lake, Illinois | Prairie Ridge HS | Iowa Western
Genesis will join the Rams after spending two years at Iowa Western CC in Council Bluffs, Iowa… Played for the Reivers and head coach Alicia Williams, totaling 655 kills in 75 matches, including 168 total blocks … Prior to Iowa Western, she was a four-year letter winner at Prairie Ridge HS … Helped lead her team to three-conference championships.
Tom Hilbert on Genesis…
Genesis is a junior college transfer middle attacker. Very athletic. We feel like she's a little more advanced in the game as we feel like we're going to need people to come in and start in that position – we think she is a good candidate for that."

Kennedy Stanford | 5'10, OH | Grand Prairie, Texas | Lamar HS
Kennedy will join the Rams following graduation in the spring of 2020 after signing with CSU on Nov. 13… Three-year letter winner for Heather Woodman at Lamar HS in Grand Prairie, Texas… Was named the Blocker of the Year in the district… Two-time co-captain and Lamar HS Offensive Player of the Year… In the classroom, she was named to the Honor Roll and Academic All-District… Plans to study journalism… Parents are Philisa and Leland Stanford and has a sister Alexis… Favorite athlete is Steph Curry.

Chose Colorado State because…
"I loved the team culture and relished the opportunity to compete at the highest level."

Tom Hilbert on Kennedy…
Kennedy is someone who we first looked at as an athletic-project player, but she has really developed as a six-rotation player and outside hitter. "She can pass the ball well and is smart in the way she sees and moves in the game. She is not a big tall player – she is about the size of Breana Runnels, but she is great jumper, she passes the ball well, she is very good as a ball handler and defender and I think she is going to be able to compete for playing time early in her career."
