Poletto named Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Sophomore middle blocker Alexandra Poletto has been named Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
The Toronto, Ontario, native averaged 2.57 blocks per set over CSU's two wins this week - a four-set victory at UNLV on Wednesday and a sweep of Fresno State on Saturday. In the win over the Bulldogs, Poletto registered a career-high 12 blocks, including two solo stuffs. The 12 blocks is the most by any CSU player this season, and tied the all-time record for most blocks by a Ram in a three-set match.
Poletto now leads the team with 1.33 blocks per set for the year, including 1.45 per set in Mountain West play. Poletto also led the Rams with six blocks at UNLV, and totaled 13 kills on .321 hitting for the week.
The award is the third weekly honor of the season for Poletto, who also received Defensive Player of the Week honors on Nov. 9 and Offensive Player of the Week recognition on Oct. 26. Poletto is the only CSU player with three weekly honors from the conference this season.
With its win at UNLV on Wednesday, CSU wrapped up its seventh consecutive Mountain West title outright. The Rams, who are currently riding an 18-match win streak and have not lost since Sept. 15, have also clinched their 21st consecutive bid to the NCAA Tournament.
The Rams will close their regular season with two matches this week - a road test at rival Wyoming tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. MT and then a home bout against non-conference foe Iowa State on Saturday at 1 p.m. MT.
