Tennis recap: Henderson, Voss advance to doubles Round of 16

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Colorado State competed in four matches Thursday, during Day 2 of the UTSA/ITA Mountain Regional Championships. Celine Voss and Caroline Henderson came away with a big doubles victory, defeating UNLV to advance to Friday’s Round of 16.
The tandem of Voss and Henderson defeated UNLV’s Mercedes Lopez and Cristina Moroi, 8-6. They are now 2-0 on the week, also beating Northern Colorado in the opening round on Wednesday.
"Celine and Caroline have come together as a doubles team in a short period of time," head coach Jon Messick said. "They produced a high level of play today against UNLV in a comeback win."
Emily Kolbow and Maddie Buxton narrowly missed the Rams’ second doubles victory, falling to Utah’s Victoria Robertson and Alexia Petrovic, 8-6. In singles play, Kolbow (6-3, 6-1) and Buxton (6-0, 6-3) were both defeated.
In addition to the Round of 16 of doubles, the quarterfinals will also take place Friday. In singles, the Round of 16 and consolation matches will be played in the afternoon. At the tournament are more than 120 tennis players from the top 18 teams in the region.
