MILWAUKEE, Wis. – On Sunday the Colorado State women’s tennis team wrapped up their first tournament of fall at the 38th Annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic.
“I thought today was better than yesterday and yesterday was better than Friday,” said Head Coach Jon Messick. “Everyday we got better. I thought we had some strong two-set matches against Marquette. We were still missing two players due to injury but it has given some of the younger players a chance to get better because of it. This weekend was great experience for the girls and I am glad we got a chance to participate in this tournament."
The Rams faced Florida International Sunday morning in doubles dropping both sets to the Golden Panthers. Golden Eagles Nina Nagode and Tina Mohoric defeated Natalie Heffron and Adriana Wojakowska 8-3 and Carlotta Orlando and Kamila Pavekova defeated CSU’s Mollie Cooper and Lauren Pick 8-2.
In singles action CSU competed hard at all six positions eventually losing 6-0 to the tournament host Marquette. Natalie Heffron defeated Ana Pimienta in the first set at the No. 1 position, but Pimienta battled back to defeat Heffron in the second set and eventually took the tie breaker to win the match.
The Rams will be back in action on Sept. 27, 2013 when they travel to Colorado Springs to compete in the Air Force invitational.
