COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado State senior Shayna Solomon has earned the Mountain West’s weekly honor of Diver of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday morning.
Solomon’s consistency has been depended upon this season and she has not disappointed. At the Phill Hansel Cougar Classic Invite, Thursday through Saturday, Solomon placed in the top five of both the 1- and 3- meter diving events. In the 3-meter springboard Solomon placed fifth with a score of 246.90. Solomon then improved her dives the next day in the 1-meter springboard. With a score of 256.25, she finished third.
Solomon not only has the MW championships ahead, but she can also look forward to the NCAA Zone competition in March. Solomon qualified for NCAA Zones in both the 1- and 3-meter events during her performance against Denver in October.
"I think she's a little more relaxed this year being a senior,” said diving coach Kevin Witt. “She's really taken it on to be a leader to the other girls and help them out where she can. I'm real proud that she's taken on that role on her own. I didn't have to tell her to step up. If she keeps the right mindset and stays healthy she should do really well."
The Rams have a holiday break ahead of them before their next competition against in-state rival Northern Colorado, Jan. 20.
