Rams bucked by Wyoming in final dual

FORT COLLINS, Colo-- - Colorado State swimmers and divers gave another hard push towards victory in Wyoming Friday, but the depth of the Rams' talent ended with a loss to Wyoming 187-113.
The swim meet marked the fourth straight loss for the Rams and the last dual-meet of the season. The Rams will end the regular season with a dual record of 4-4. Although the Colorado State's loss leaves a bitter taste, the buck stops here.
"It was a tough meet, it's a big rivalry for Wyoming," said Mattos. "They were the better team tonight but we treated it as a dual, we're right where we need to be for the next few weeks."
Individually the swimmers focused on streamlined finishes. Freshman Michelle Price set a Wyoming pool record in the 200 Backstroke (2:05.92) and took first in the 100 Backstroke. Kathleen McCleary finished second in the 1000 Freestyle, with two Rams close behind.
"This is the best I have seen our kids swim at this altitude, we have depth and I know they will be ready for the championship," said Mattos.
Divers Elyse Hall (1-meter) and Karin Knudson (3-meter) rounded out third place against Wyoming in both diving events. Although the meet did not fare favorably for Colorado State, the real prize lies ahead at the Mountain West Championships.
"The final score for this meet is not indicative of our performance level, sometimes you are not as good as your opponent," said Mattos.
The MWC Championships will be held Feb. 27-Mar. 1 in Oklahoma City, Okla. The Rams have already begun preparing for the championships, as a matter of fact the team has been preparing all season.
"We're kind of putting all of our eggs in one basket," said Mattos. "We have to keep our focus and really good things will happen in Oklahoma City."
