CSU Water Polo Wins Big in Claremont Tournament

Claremont, Calif. - The Colorado State women's water polo team earned two big victories Saturday in the Claremont Colleges Tournament. The Rams defeated Chapman 15-8 and downed Whittier 10-5 to improve their season record to 9-9.
In game one, CSU broke open a 7-6 halftime lead with three unanswered in the third and held on to win 15-8 over WWPA foe Chapman. CSU senior Laurien White set a school record with six goals in the game breaking the old record of five held by herself and teammate Annie Quinn. Emily Chambers posted three goals and four assists in the contest while Shannon Kohl, Monica Schuh and Sarah Ostling all had two. White also recorded a game-high six steals in the win. Freshman Krystyna McCright had 10 saves in goal for the Rams.
In the second game of the day, CSU jumped out to a 4-0 lead and held on to win 10-5. Andrea Lugo had 14 saves in the game while White led CSU in scoring for the second time with three goals. Quinn posted two goals while Ostling, Chambers, Schuh, Kathleen Armstrong and Emily McCullough all had one.
"We were very solid in both games today," commented CSU head coach John Mattos. "Dre (Lugo) might have had the best game of her career against Whittier. We just played a complete game in both games."
CSU will complete play in the Claremont Colleges Tournament on Sunday with games against Occidental and Pomona-Pitzer.
