About New Mexico State
New Mexico State comes into Fort Collins for the first time in 16 years, boasting one of the team's best starts in school history.  Through 11 games this season, the Aggies have posted an 8-3 record, the third-best start in program history.

The Aggies, who sit atop the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) standings heading into Saturday's game, are guided by head coach Darin Spence.  Spence has posted a career record of 53-76 (.410) in five seasons at the helm of the New Mexico State program, including back-to-back appearances in the WAC Tournament championship game.

Three players average double-figures scoring for New Mexico State, including a pair of Top 10 scorers in the WAC.  Senior forward Sherrell Neal leads the Aggies' charge, averaging 12.6 points per game, while shooting 50 percent from the field.  Neal also ranks as the team's top rebounder at nearly nine rebounds per contest.  Fellow senior Anikia Jawara ranks just behind Neal, with 12.0 points and 8.1 rebounds per contest.

Freshman guard Madison Spence, daughter of head coach Darin Spence, has started all 11 games and ranks third in scoring, averaging 10.9 points per game.  Spence also leads the team in assists, dishing out 41, more than double any other player on the team.

As a team, the Aggies are shooting nearly 40 percent from the field, and are averaging 65.3 points per contest.  New Mexico State is holding opponents to 61 points per game and 35.3 percent shooting, which ranks 36th nationally for field goal percentage defense.

That has translated into an 8-3 record this season, that includes victories over Northern Colorado and BYU and a 1-1 mark against in-state rival and MWC foe New Mexico.  New Mexico State held off Northern Colorado (69-67) at home and BYU (54-52) each by just two points, with the victory over the Cougars coming in Provo, Utah.  New Mexico State also downed New Mexico 58-42 in Las Cruces on Dec. 2, but dropped its last contest vs. the Lobos (62-56) in Albuquerque, N.M., on Dec. 21.

The Rundown
Colorado State and New Mexico State have met 23 times since 1975, but played each other just once since the 1989-90 season, a 77-51 Aggies victory last season in Las Cruces.  Overall, the Aggies own a 21-2 advantage in the all-time series, with both CSU wins coming in Moby Arena.  Saturday's contest marks the first time since March 3, 1990, that the Aggies will visit Fort Collins.  CSU's last victory in the series, a 72-50 decision,  came on Feb. 11, 1984.

Idaho and Portland Notables
Despite losing two tough decisions on the road last week, several Colorado State players turned in notable performances against Idaho and Portland.

At Idaho on Dec. 18, the Rams recorded a team season-high rebounding total with 52 rebounds, including 42 defensive boards, which also marked a season best.

Sophomore Juanise Cornell accounted for 15 of those rebounds, a season high for a Rams player and a career high for Cornell.  Cornell also recorded a block against the Vandals, tying her career best for a single game.

Junior Britney Minor added seven rebounds to tie her career high and set new personal marks in free throws made (8) and attempted (12).

Defensively against he Vandals, freshman Elle Queen tied a career high with two steals and junior Carine Reimink posted a career-best mark with three blocks.

Junior guard Kandy Beemer tied a career high with two assists vs. Idaho, but it was her scoring prowess that drew attention in the Rams' game at Portland.

Beemer set a career high with 23 points, including 7-for-10 shooting from 3-point range in the Rams' game against the Pilots.  The seven 3-pointers made also marked a career best at CSU for Beemer.

Sophomore Lauren Young recorded two assists against the Pilots to mark a new career high as did Emily Neal with six rebounds.

Minor followed her seven-rebound effort at Idaho with a career-most three offensive boards at Portland, and Queen added two blocks vs. the Pilots to establish a new personal best.

For the Record
Senior guard Sara Hunter continues to move up the career charts at CSU.  Hunter is now just 22 points shy of 14th on the Rams' all-time scoring list and need just five 3-pointers to reach 200 for her career.

Looking Ahead
The Rams will have an 11-day lull in action before starting Mountain West Conference play at UNLV on Jan. 9.  Tipoff for that game is set for 7 p.m. PT at the Cox Pavilion.  Colorado State's next home game is a tilt with the BYU Cougars at 2 p.m. on  Jan. 12.
