The Colorado State volleyball team evened its record with a three-game sweep over the Morgan State Bears, 30-15, 30-27, 30-24 in the Rams' second match of the Hilton Classic. With the win, the Rams improve to 1-1, while the Bears fall to 0-2.
Colorado State was led by redshirt freshman Tessa Nelson with 11 kills, while sophomore right-side hitter Jaime Strauss added 10 kills. Sophomore setter Ashley Fornstrom and senior defensive specialist Lindsey Hillegass each had two aces on the afternoon and Hillegass and junior outside hitter Amanda Fahnestock led the team with nine digs, while Nelson had six blocks.
The Rams hit .233 for the match with six aces, eight blocks and 46 digs, while Morgan State had 32 kills, hit .064, tallied three aces and seven blocks.
Morgan State was led by Ivanti Bush with 10 kills, while Rocky Mountain High School star Esther Johnson led the team with two aces, libero Ashley Preston led the team with 12 digs and Camille Coleman had five blocks.
The Bears will face Texas A&M in the 5:00 match, while Missouri State will play the Rams in the final match of the Hilton Classic at 7:00. In the first match of the morning, Texas A&M defeated Missouri State in three games, 30-19, 30-25, 30-25.
