Box Score

In a Mountain West Conference battle this evening, the Colorado State volleyball team fell to UNLV in four games, 30-23, 26-30, 28-30, 25-30. The loss drops the Rams to 13-7 on the year and 6-4 in conference play, while the Rebels move to 12-11 this season and 8-3 in league action.

Colorado State was led by its three seniors as middle blocker Dre Downs tallied a team-high 16 kills and a match-high seven blocks, outside hitter Tess Rogers notched 15 kills and five blocks and outside hitter Casey Bauer added 11 kills and seven digs. Freshman setter Ashley Fornstrom tallied a career-high four aces and tied her career-high with 14 digs, while junior libero Katherine Whitney tied her season-high with 22 digs. Sophomore transfer Amanda Fahnestock played both as a left-side hitter and middle blocker for the Rams tonight, notching six kills in 14 swings for a .429 hitting efficiency.

"Our entire team is disappointed with this loss," said head coach Tom Hilbert. "UNLV played well and they kept their unforced errors down from a hitting aspect. We were very slow tempo and easy to track and we made a lot of mistakes. I don't think we played with any energy today -- we need more emotion and more intensity on the court."

UNLV was led by middle blocker Lauren Miramontes with 16 kills and sophomore outside hitter Maria Aladjova added 14 kills and hit a team-best .393. Four Rebels were in double figures in digs with sophomore libero leading the way with 16, freshman defensive specialist Camille Cunningham tallied 14, outside hitter Michelle Banks has 12 and outside hitter Brittani Lumsden added 10.

Colorado State tallied 10 blocks to UNLV's 4.5, and had nine aces compared to four for UNLV, but hit just .126 on the evening with 32 unforced hitting errors.

The Rams return to action tomorrow evening against San Diego State. The match is also a reunion for the 1984 CSU team, which was the first team in school history to win a conference championship. Match time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
